SaharaReporters.com President Jonathan Applauds Super Eagles As Champions of Africa
President Goodluck Jonathan said today that having conquered Africa, the new Super Eagles can go on to achieve even greater glory at the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, and assured the team of every necessary support and encouragement from the Federal Government for that assignment.
In a congratulatory statement to the team, which won the African Cup of Nations today in Johannesburg, President Jonathan described what he called the team’s amazing transformation from rank outsiders to champions as “a clear manifestation of the even greater successes the country can achieve in all other fields of human endeavour if all Nigerians come together and devote their immense collective energies and resources to supporting the implementation of his Administration’s Agenda for National Transformation.”
He therefore urged all Nigerians to imbibe the “positive lessons of the Super Eagles’ success,” saying the fulfillment of the country’s immense potentials for greatness “will be more speedily attained if more Nigerians resolve to emulate the team’s exemplary unity of purpose, dedication, commitment and devotion to service of the nation.”
President Jonathan did not say if the resolve to which he alluded included his government or his ruling Peoples Democratic Party, members of whom are widely held responsible to be responsible for the corruption and mismanagement that continues to hold Nigeria hostage.
President Goodluck Jonathan congratulates the Super Eagles and all Nigerians on the country’s inspiring victory in the AFCON 2013 finals this evening in Johannesburg.
President Jonathan thanks Coach Stephen Keshi and all members of the team who have worked very hard and played with great focus, dedication, artistry and patriotism to make Nigeria the proud champions of Africa once again after 19 years of setbacks in the competition.
The President also commends the Minister of Sports, Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi, the Chairman and members of the Nigerian Football Federation and all others who have contributed to the astonishing transformation of the Super Eagles from underdogs to gallant winners and glorious soccer champions of the African continent.
President Jonathan believes that the team’s amazing transformation from rank outsiders to champions is a clear manifestation of the even greater successes the country can achieve in all other fields of human endeavour if all Nigerians come together and devote their immense collective energies and resources to supporting the implementation of his Administration’s Agenda for National Transformation.
Therefore, as the entire nation celebrates Nigeria’s remarkable triumph in South Africa, President Jonathan urges all Nigerians to imbibe the positive lessons of the Super Eagles’ success because the fulfilment of the country’s immense potentials for greatness will be more speedily attained if more Nigerians resolve to emulate the team’s exemplary unity of purpose, dedication, commitment and devotion to service of the nation.
The President also believes that having conquered Africa, the new Super Eagles can go on to achieve even greater glory at the World Cup in Brazil next year. He assures the team that it will receive every necessary support and encouragement from the Federal Government for that next national assignment.
President Jonathan thanks the Government of South Africa and the Confederation of African Football for a well-organised tournament and looks forward to receiving the victorious Super Eagles in Abuja on Tuesday.

If Eagles had failed, these clowns would have disowned the team and fire the coach but now that they succeeded, the success suddenly became part of the transformation agenda.

Beyond all the euphoria of this victory is that the Nigerian head coach did away with the principle of quota system which has kept Nigeria down for ages to uplifting meritocracy, and what is the result? Success.
Until Nigeria do away with quota system and follow other progressive countries by allowing the brightest and most capable to occupy positions of authority, Nigeria ain't going anywhere in the next million years. That is, if it manages to cross the American-set 2015 dagger.

@Akpos, I am from the Niger Delta, i am not Igbo/Ibo. can you please stop adding Edo or Delta to your break away rubbish. i will rather go with yoruba's than be affiliated with Ibo. Edo are to closely alligned to Yoruba's than with Igbo's anyways. Again, one of the reasons why Biafra failed before is what you are alluding to. Trying to add areas that do not belong or do not want to align with Igbo to your struggle.

The President cannot be responsible for all aspect of life in Nigeria, he has appointed capable hands to supervise all this other areas. Nigeria did not accept to pay the exorbitant amount CAF and the right owners where asking Nigeria to pay in other to beam the matches life to Nigerian, while all other African countries where billed between $500,000 and $I m to show matches, Nigeria was charged $8 m for the same, no sane government or organisation will accept such injustice.

He can now don the cap of glory in celebration.....while ordinary folks were crammed into viewing centres all over the country to watch matches on satellite channels rather than in the comfort of their sitting rooms. Learnt some sick and asthmatic fans even died. Matches were not beamed on local channels because no corporate organizations could sponsor and pick the bills. No Glo. No Zenith Bank and their swashbuckling adverts on CNN could rescue us….not even shell, Chevron or almighty NNPC!...Shame!!!

Mr. President, please emulate the coach Big Boss Stephen Keshi. He ignored all manner of influences went out to pick his boys, groomed them and announced to the world that he is confident they will perform. Even when no one gave them a chance and wanted him to make changes he stuck to his gun and the rest is history.
Now is the time for Mr. President the same for Nigerians. Sack all of the deadwoods and tribally/politically influenced appointees in your goverment. Trim down the number and select you men and women who are eager to work for the country just as the likes of Victor Moses and his team mates did.
