I am really shocked at the transformation of the man - Reuben Abati. I am not a particularly avid reader of newspapers but growing up I would always make the effort to read Abati's columns in the Guardian as well as Simon Kolawaole's column in This Day.
I derived a measure of hope from people such as this in thinking that Nigeria still had upright citizens who will be content with enough and not sell their souls for excess. Obviously, I was fooled - at least by Abati, so far.

Like someone already commented everyone obviously has a price and Abati's has been met by Jonathan. If for money he now happily defends the indefensible, may he know the peace of the man buried alive with ant-infested faggots.

Well, I think Abati after insulting our collective intelligence and defending the most obvious lies as he had been notoriously doing to please his boss (GEJ) will unfortunately be on the same side of the masses he is callously and disingenuously insulting today. A case of Femi Kayode would readily come to mind, who has regrettably become a public opinion expert in the same Nigeria after all his dubious exploits just 5yrs ago. That is Nigeria for us where integrity does not count.

Reuben Abati as well as his paymaster Jonathan should not be excoriated, they are merely pawns in a bigger geo-political game which is far over and above their intellectual and spiritual awareness.

I stumbled on an article by Dr Reuben Abati on corruption in Unity Schools or so written sometime in 2010 or thereabout, felt pity for the youngman who just made himself a prisoner. I wonder which side of the divide he will be when he leaves office and by which time he would have lost his critical voice.

I totally agree with pastor Tunde Bakare that nigerians are fools, though not all of them. Many nigerians are still living in a fools paradise. They are still thinking that somebody that cannot confront corruption and fight it can still do a magic for them. That cabal is still there to fight anybody that is to fight them. When it comes to fighting corruption majority of nigerians don't have confidence in this Jonathan administration.
If those foolish nigerians want to remain so, then let them still cast their votes on remain poor and perpetual wahala period.

Very soon there will be a cabinet reschufle and Dr Abati will be 'promoted' to the 'Special Assistant to the media manager of the cook of the First Lady'. This is in recorgnition of his metamorphosis to a first class liar.

@ Paradise, can you list the negative report SR has written? I believe it is very simple if you think what they report is incorrect you can stop reading/visiting their website. I am always amazed that Nigerians are so easily carried away.Who or What ever made you guys to believe in Mr Abati before? I remember that my late father never failed to purchase The Guardian on Sunday so as to read Reuben Abati's 'Crossroads' column. It was his love for Dr Abati's writeups that drew me to also become an avid reader of and a fan of Reuben Abati. When Abati moved to Aso Rock, I felt that Nigeria needed sincere people in government if change was to come. But alas, Abati seems to have disappointed us all! His utterances since becoming GEJ's mouthpiece leave a lot to be desired. Who knows how Prof Utomi and the rest of the crew at "Patito's Gang" will feel about this turncoat? I'm sure my father must be turning in his grave over this monumental betrayal of the Nigerian people.

Dr Rueben, do not become another statistic. Learn from recent history, retrace your steps and reclaim your dignity.

We do know who the liars are. May God give us the will to make Nigeria great.

Dr Abati and President Jonathan are wasted sperms. Nigerians had great hope for them as individuals to save and help them so that they can live lives that normal human beings are living all over the world. I hope Nigerians will read and respond to my comment regarding to the culture of waste in Nigeria system and I hope saharareporters and any independent media will investigate why three Nigeria embassy in America and the insensitivity/arrogancy of the officials towards Nigerians needing assistance in those embassies. Nigerians are awaiting answer.

Good job SR, obviously u can see how Ruben Abati is struggling with this issue;you dont struggle with the truth,its only liars that do.How come the entourage-list is now taking ages,maybe the bag at the hotel had been stolen. Oh,how I personally wish that Abati had listened to Mr Alex Ibru! He would have saved himself and his 'poor' family this gargantuan embarrassment.
He knows he is sunk and that there is no means of escape. How he could have been hood-winked to take this poisoned chalise remains for me a mystery.

I wish someone would provide comparative figures of the size of delegations accompanying other heads of state and government. Armed with that information, it will be easier to decide whether GEJ's entourage was over bloated or similar to those from other countries.

They openly rejected a man a could not even be faulted by his foes on an iota of corruption, perhaps the only former public officer in this country who can look Nigerians in the eyes and say "i didnt take 1kobo of your money. They voted Jonathan and i knew we were finished. Today, i have no illusions, and Jonathan's stealing and squander mania do not surprise me, and i do not expect him and his gang to change because we berate them. No, they won't. However, Nigerians must now be prepared to change with their blood what they refused to do with their votes. They must be ready to take back their country "by any means necessary!

Last April, many Nigerians, including those now commenting on SR, got a historic opportunity to bequeath their nation and themselves a legacy in leadership by sending the felonious PDP and its witless apostle Jonathan to the cleaners. Change their circumstance, reject mediocrity and thievery and commence the task of building a great nation, but the refused. They went tribal and religious. Abati also confided in the same friend that the people in govt don't trust him. He even said they ususally exclude him from certain meetings because they beleive he is the annonymous presidency source that the media refer to anytime they have an exclussive report on government. Abati needs our prayers to overcome this suicide attempt that his thirst for money brought him into. I also feel for the media houses that allow individuals to use their platform for personal aggradizement, see what Abati's exit has done to The Guardian. Newspapers should stop building their strength around a particular person. Columnists and senior editors should be made to sign contracts that will prevent them from seeling the soul of the business. Sanjay Gupta of CNN was offered Surgeon General of USA by Obama but he declined because he knew that his influence at CNN cannot be bought by position or money.
