Anambra Governorship Polls: Inspector General of Nigeria Police Orders Restriction Of Movements

IGP MD Abubakar
By CSP Frank Mba

In furtherance of strategies designed to prevent electoral fraud and violence and thus ensure a smooth and orderly conduct of the Anambra State gubernatorial election slated for Saturday, 16th November, 2013, the Nigeria Police High Command has ordered a restriction of movement within the boundaries of Anambra State with effect from 6.00pm on Friday, 15th November, 2013 to 6.00am on Sunday, 17th November, 2013. Consequently, all states contiguous to Anambra State - the states of Delta, Enugu, Imo, Abia etc will be heavily policed. However, those on essential duties are not affected by this order. Meanwhile, the Force has sternly warned all security details to desist from accompanying their principals and politicians to polling booths and collation centres during the election. It reiterates that only Police personnel specifically assigned for election duties must be seen within and around the election designated places.

The Force High Command notes that the restriction order is informed by the exigencies of overriding security considerations. Noting that the Force is not ignorant of the citizens’ right to freedom of movement, as enshrined in the constitution, it however insists that this is a preemptive measure aimed at forestalling elaborate plans by faceless groups to undermine the electoral process as gathered through intelligence reports.

The apex Police Authority therefore, while empathizing with the citizenry over the inconveniences the order may cause, implores them to see this order as very necessary in the present circumstance and geared towards the quest for a seamless, credible and successful gubernatorial election.

The Force also suggests that travellers should take advantage of alternate routes to their destinations where necessary within the days – Friday 15th – Sunday 17th November 2013, that this order is in Force.

This is outrageous. Anambra

This is outrageous. Anambra has no common border with Abia State. Kogi is closer to Anambra than Abia, yet the Hausa Fulani security forces closed down roads in Abia leaving Kogi alone. Is it because Kogi is a Yoruba state stolen by the Hausa Fulani? I am not suggesting that they should close any place in SE SS because of this useless election, but why disrupt the livelihood of the good people of Abia State?

In the first place, who will pay me back my money from SE SS oil fields stolen by the children of Lamido?

ANAMBRA STATE DESERVES BETTER

IN VIEW OF THE MOUNTAIN OF CHALLENGES BESETTING NIGERIA - POLITICALLY, ECONOMICALLY AND EVEN ANTHROPOLOGICALLY; WITH THE CONSTANT REMINDERS OF A FRAGILE PEACE AND THREATS OF NIGERIA'S BIFURCATION, ANAMBRA STATE, AND INDEED, ND'IGBO, DESERVES A LEADER IN THE LEAGUE OF M.I. OKPARA, AKANU IBIAM, DENIS OSADEBEY, EMEKA OJUKWU, SAM MBAKWE, AMONG AN ARRAY OF OTHERS. ONE WITH THE KNOWLEDGEABLE SUAVE OF THE TRENDS OF EVENT IN NIGERIA; COUPLED WITH THE PUSHFUL, DIPLOMATIC, METHODOLOGICAL AND THE PSYCHOLOGICAL GRAVITAS MUST MOUNT THE GOVERNMENTAL SADDLE IN AWKA. I THINK PETER OBI PLAYED A BIT OF ALL THAT. AGAIN, I REFUSE NOT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT. NGIGE FITS IN TOO, OR, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Nigeria Police

What kind of country is this. Just an isolated election in one state. movement of people is curtailed for almost two days. I am very sure, this strategy is to freely rig the polls in favour of the candidate of Jonathan, APGA. So the people of Anambra will not be able to protect their vote the way the Edo people did last year. The police can easily get security reports in a civil activity such as an election but do not know how to gather security reports if Boko Haram is about to operate. When the APC raised the alarm, I thought they are noise makers. Now I know better.

Anambra Election

It is hoped that the election would be peaceful and that the PDP would not use federal power to gain advantage over the other parties. Let's hope for the best folks. There is no reason not to have a free and fair election in Anambra state. Follow my blog on the national conference: http://nationalconfererncengr.wordpress.com
