Group Files FOI Request Compelling Nigeria's Minister Of Information To Produce Records Of Fed. Gov't Subsidy On Petrol

By Olanrewaju Suraj

Human And Environmental Development Agenda (Heda)  a registered non-governmental organization(NGO) has requeted the Information Minister to supply it with relevant documents supporting the controversial subsidy of Petroleum product in the country.

In a letter dated 17th January, 2012 and signed on behalf of the organization its partners; Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), Partnership for Justice(PJ) and Citizens Assistance Centre (CAC), by its Chairman, Mr. Suraju Olanrewaju, the Minister was quoted as asserting in different articles that the Federal Government of Nigeria’s deregulation of the downstream sector particularly, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) is not aimed at causing hardship on Nigerians but  at opening up the sector for growth, competition and Development.

The groups accused the government of perpetrating fraud against the country and its people  in an assertion "above view has however been countered by Civil society groups and activists that facts and statistics have shown that the Federal Government’s deregulation policy is a hopeless fraud and not in the interest of the country’s economy and people".

The statement stated "It is in the interest of participatory governance and accountability and as provided for in Sections 2, 3, and 4 of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act that we hereby request that copies of templates, documents and records that confirms PETROLEUM PRODUCTS PRICING REGULATORY AGENCY (PPPRA) and Federal Government’s prices of the PMS; Nigeria's actual daily consumption rate of PMS; the list of contractors involved with the importation of the product; the barrels of oil refined by Nigeria's refineries in their present operating capacities; and list of the beneficiaries of N1.3trillion 2011 subsidy".

The FOI Act provides that an agency or governments must respond to such request within 7days of the receipt of such request.

File Lawsuit to Arrest these People when they travel outside Nig

I suggest every Nigerian Lawyer in any country should immediately file a lawsuit and have these thieves arrested and face charges when they travel to any country especially in Ghana, USA, and Europe. I aslo think the protesters should invade these thieves homes and occupy their homes. till they face the law and return all these stolen money. All the stolen monies are now in Ghana hiding in huge houses and banks of these Nigerian thieves.

Bunch of hypocrites

@ Kunle, can you show any evidence that Paedophile Muhammad was persecuted by his neighbours. It is the same tactics that Boko Haram is using today; crying wolves while there are nothing. Who persecuted him? ISLAM IS EVIL & BLOOD THIRSTY CULT! who persecuted Mutallab in Nigeria before he tried to bomb USA on xmas day; what was the crime of xtians in Madalla?. It is evident that Yusuf, BH leader killed a lot of xtians before he met his jungle justice. If you don’t know anything about Islam, just keep your koranic mouth shut. Everything we know about Islam, we have learnt from the life of Paedophile Muhammad, Osama, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Afganistan, Boko Haram etc. You said your religion is a religion of peace, who asked you? Let’s make the judgment by ourselves. You are a hypocrite, you hate Kafirs, yet you don’t want to migrate to Afganistan. What a bunch of lazy idiots like their paedophile prophet, whose only recorded occupation was shagging aged and minors.
