SNG for mass action in Abuja on Wednesday

The SAVE NIGERIA GROUP (SNG) has called on Nigerians to join it in a mass action in Abuja on Wednesday morning as part of its campaign to end the “invisible presidency” through Section 144 of the Constitution, and forcing electoral reforms as a means of restoring integrity of the ballot box.

Nuhu Ribadu to speak at Columbia university’s African Economic Forum

Former Executive Chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, currently Visiting Fellow at the Center for Global Development, Nuhu Ribadu, will join experts in the Greasing the Wheel: Law, Corruption and the Economy panel to discuss the role of law and legal institutions in combating corruption in Africa. The event is part of Columbia University’s 7th Annual African Economic Forum, which takes place on March 26th - 27th, 2010.

UPDATED: Coup D'etat in Niger Republic

Saharareporters has learned that a bloody coup d'etat in is progress in the republic of Niger where the president, Mamadou Tanja, recently extended his tenure in defiance of public opinion. Sources at the ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja told our reporters that they are yet to get a full picture of the insurrection against the Nigerien government as the time of filing this report.

Dipo Dina, Ogun State opposition politician assassinated

the Ogun State gubernatorial candidate of the Action Congress in the April 2007 election, was assassinated near Covenant University in Otta, Ogun State, earlier this evening. Dipo fought a bitter election against the current governor of the state, Gbenga Daniel, leading to a series of official harassments from the governor.
