Recently, I wrote a piece titled, “The Obvious Choice” where I briefly analysed the three foreign candidates reportedly shortlisted for the job of managing the Super Eagles. Though in that article, my obvious choice was and still is Lars Lagerback for reasons I gave there; but this follow-up article is not dealing with the individual choice.

The Obvious Choice

Just as expected in a World Cup year, Nigerian football has once again gone into overdrive, leaving the very obvious decision to make till the last minute with everyone running around like headless chickens. The Nigerian Football Association (NFA), Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), a Presidential Task Force and a coterie of pundits from the national football community are on the prowl, looking for that superman – a foreign manager that will bring the glory days back to our football, having now concluded overwhelmingly, it seems, that the best of our local coaches unfortunately lack what it takes to take Nigerian football to the next level, despite the vast potential.

Sack Coach Amodu Shuaibu for taking Nigeria to the World Cup 2010 in South Africa

The above statement is the way I will sum the news I read in one of the newspapers attributed to one James Manager who is supposed to be one of the Senators of the Federal Republic. He was equally quoted as saying that he is the Chairman Senate committee on sports and they have concluded plans to hire a foreign Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in preparation for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

The qualification of the super Eagles of Nigeria for the coming biggest sporting event in the world, and to be staged in Africa for the first time is a pleasant surprise to all Nigerians worldwide.

Sack Shuaibu Amodu now!

As the match in Kasarani ended 3-2 in favour of the Nigerian visitors so many Nigerians, many who I do not know how they even got my phone number called me to praise me for keeping so much faith in coach Shaibu Amodu (MON) but I looked back into the cols of history and realised that heroes are the ones we kill in Nigeria while we praise thieves to high heavens.

Nigerian star gets 40 lashes for drinking in Sudan-(AFP)

KHARTOUM — A Nigerian football star who plays for a Sudanese club has been sentenced to 40 lashes for having consumed alcohol, a judicial source said on Wednesday.
