By SR Sports

At a post match press conference in Nelspruit South Africa, Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi put up a bold face claiming his players did not do too badly even as a they conceded a last minute goal against Burkina Faso today at the ongoing Africa cup of nations.

Keshi said at the conference: "I'm very proud of the boys, they did everything that I wanted them to do, and for the last 25 days it is the fourth game we played together as a team because we are building, I'm just gonna let everything die down tonight, let them sleep off and tomorrow I will pick it up if I have to go in the middle of the night I will do that, this game is gone and I will prepare them for the game against Zambia".

Speaking on Victor Moses absence from today's match, Keshi defended his absence,  "He took a knock in Faro and 2 days ago during training. Didn't want to risk him only to take him off 10 mins later", said the coach

On his part, Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo stated that all he said was that the team  will get to the finals, quoting him, "All I said was that we will get to the finals, or we will progress and at least we will give a good account of ourselves, we wanted to win today's match that was why we gave all that we have, this is d first game we are playing, we gave everything today"

Re; Fans

Keep quiet everybody. The game has just began and Keshi and His boy will soon shame you all. It not about winning all the matches it is about progressing through the group stages and winning the title. Up super eagles

Political Footballers

Listen all this player's don't think about much money, go down there to AJegunle, U will see enough young experiences footballer, pick player from dirty part of Nigeria, u will see they will do what we want. This is not a national team, this is just a political team. Political Coach

@Anonymous

'Keshi did not fail'. Really? Is that right? So your criteria for measuring success in football is to draw a match. You sure have a funny way of assessing success and failure. A man who was sacked twice as coach for his poor performance with two teams in the same competition (AFCON), has been hired by Nigeria, and we expect a different result. When will our mediocrity end?

KESHI DID NOT FAIL IN HIS JOB

KESHI DID NOT FAIL IN HIS JOB WITH THE TOGOLESE AND THE MALIANS PLEASE HE QUALIFIED TOGO FOR THE WORLD CUP AND ALSO WHEN MALI PLAYED HER FIRST MATCH AGAINST ANGOLA IN THE AFCON 2006 THEY CAME FROM 4-O TO DRAW THE MATCH AT 4-4. TO BE CONTINUED

yobo the captain indeed

Joseph yobo is the real captain indeed by making two errors within 5 mins what a pity y can't african best keeper captain super chichken they have just exercise rubbish on the pitch.

we nigerian are our problem

Can u imagine some stupid people complaining about the performance of the eagles and the coaching ability of steven keshi, this is our problem when we see good football we dont really recognise 1 bcos those that criticise dont even know how to play football. Nigeria super eagle just started putting up good performances in years and u are criticising them.. If u are doing that u are real stupid. And on the issue of foreign, when will nigerian know that we nigerian are not second best and take thier mind off the forein coach thing? Bcos this is what is killing our economy generally, we seek solutions from foreigners when they dont even av solution to their own problems

hahahahahahahaha! Fucking

hahahahahahahaha! Fucking hell! That's comedy gold!

Re: Keshi's coaching record...

If the truth is told about Togo and Mali that Keshi coached, he was a failure, and was rightly rejected and sacked. It is their reject that Nigeria picked up and dusted to become the Super Eagles coach. What did we expect? Checking his bio out, Keshi last coached Mali and was sacked in January of 2010, and was without a coaching job until Nigeria picked him up almost 2 years later, and offered him the Super Eagles job. In other words, he was sacked because he was not good enough, and could not progress Mali beyond the group stages at the last Nations cup. And to reward him for his sack, Nigeria picked him up. And this is Nigeria's best! I hold our Journalists complicit for not checking him out diligently.

Until we get our appointment system right, the country will continue to stutter and regress. As I stated before, I hope for his sake he does well and wins the cup. But it wouldn't be because of his OUTSTANDING Nations cup record, but by sheer luck and favour.

when a team loses a 1 goal

when a team loses a 1 goal lead in the final minutes of a match, it is always a bout the general tactic not the individual players, so it is always about the bench. We simply don't have the calibre of benches that win tournaments.

BIG FOOL,IDIOT PERSONIFIED

You are a big fool. What has Igbo tribe got to do with the issue at stake you tribalistic idiot. You ought to make useful suggestion could move Nigerian football forward rather dwelling out-of -point issues about tribe. You've got to have a rethink about yourself,Aboki nama.

Re: Keshi is a mistake for Nigeria!

For his sake, I hope Keshi does well, otherwise, this will be a bad advert for Local based managers! But come to think of it, which of the Nigerian coaches has international pedigree? Which of them can be hired to coach a British Division 4 club side, let him indicate. Who amongst them has internationally recognised licence, that can be likened or compared to that held by the sacked QPR manager, Mark Hughes? Who amongst them can coach in either the Spanish or Italian league. Or who out of the lot has Harry Rednapp's clout?

Those are the kind of managers good enough for 'almighty' Super Eagles. If Togo and others can afford foreign coaches, why can't Nigeria? And when we do hire foreign coaches, we should go for PEDIGREE, and not minnows like Bonfere Jo & ilk. They are UNKNOWN and P.E TEACHERS! Nigeria deserves better, if we are to compete at top level and with the rest of the world. After 1 YEAR Keshi is still unable to GROOM 11 LOCAL BASED PLAYERS! Very sad!

WHAT A DISMAL PERFORMANCE

First impression matters in everything one is doing. With this dismal performance,it will be a miracle for the our so called eagles to make it to the knockout stage. They do not show the character of a team that would make it to the final at all.I doubt if they can make it out of group c.

Re: 'Keshi made a mistake taking Yobo to AFCON'

Keshi himself is a mistake. As I type, I am watching Togo v Cote D'voire (both coached by Foreigners), and I'm wondering, what is wrong with Nigeria. What is Keshi's TECHNICAL DEPTH that qualifies him to coach the Super Eagles? Coaching mushroom countries and teams like Togo, Mali, and the mushroom US non-league team, isn't sufficient qualification required to coach 'almighty' Super Eagles. We should have checked out the record of his US team first.

Adebayo is the only star-player on the Togolese side. Yet they held their own and gave a good account against Drogba and his side. That says a lot, that a quality manager, even without quality players, can still inspire a team to play well. However, a poor quality manager cannot inspire good quality players, because he won't be able to read the game or understand what to do to turn a game around, or he might even make the wrong selection.

U r a BASTARD! Infact, a

U r a BASTARD! Infact, a SUPER BASTARD!!! UP NAIJA!

Nigerians, I think is too

Nigerians, I think is too early to point fingers and start apportioning blame, the super eagles still need our collective support to fly high in this championship. please let us put aside sentiment and stand by them to the end. you never can tell.

Correct!!

Thank you my person!! you just hit the nail on the head!don't mind all these people opening their mouth and vomiting rubbish!!

product of

product of corruption.

Re:APCON

Well, the boys tried there best for the match but the referrer was so partial against Nigeria to talk about the red card given, it is uncalled-for, i wish the Nigeria Football Authority will take up against the referrer for the impartial treatment meted to Nigeria players.

SUPER FISH!!!

SUPER FISH IN ACTION..FROM SUPER EAGLE TO SUPER CHICKEN AND FINALLY SUPER FISH!!!

give dem lads a break!

for me I'd say, cut these lads some slack and lets not be too quick to condemn them. We've got 2 more games. Lets see how far they can go...

This coach cannot save Nigerian football

This Coach cannot save Nigerian football, Let the glass house try and be hornets for once, yes the present super-eagle coach did coached Togo and Mali and qualified them for nation cup. He took mali to the nations cup competitions, what was the result. You removed Sampson Siasia, a man that has made the nation proud in several occasions in Africa and the world football and brought in a man with lesser result, what do you expect. can you tell the deference in this game and the last game played at Logos, coached by Siasia, was there any betrayal this time on the field of play. Why should we use politics, tribalism, sentiments, friendship and "shop I shop" to destroy the country's football. Nature shall cash-up with all those destroying this country's football.

comment

SAMSON SIASIA IS THE BEST MAN FOR THE EAGLES AND NOT STEPHEN KESHI.IF HE WAS LEFT THEN I BELIEVE BY NOW NIGERIA WILL HAVE A GOOD TEAM TO BACK ON. NIGERIA IS NOT GETTING TO THE QUATER FINAL WITH THE GROUP I SAW YESTERDAY.HAVE A NICE DAY

Where is the great one coach (Shuaibu Amadu)?

Is right time for Nigerian,s to seek for forgiveness from for coach of the super Eagles of Nigeria. How can a coach qualified a particular country twice and was asked to leave, and eversince he left nothing to show to Nigerins. Please come back home and bring us back to great Nigeria. Up Amadu Shuaibu!

Una blame Yobo, a nation were

Una blame Yobo, a nation were ode be leader wetin you expect for common football. Dis na wetin corruption and our ode leaders turn Naija to. Nothing wey we put hand dey better because nobody love Naija. E sad gan!

Hold on to the ball for 1min

All they needed to do was keep the ball at the corner flag for the remaining one minute. Okocha blamed himself for not doing same against Italy in 1994. Igiebor, Ogenyi, Musa- the 3 of them could ve done it,hold on to the ball. Victims of their inexperience. Can't say same for Uche. He shld ve known better and not passed the ball for a 2nd goal. Hope it is a lesson well learnt.

SUPER FISH!!!!

SUPER FISH IS ACTION!!! LOL

What does Keshi mean by the concept "They gave everything?"

Honestly, yesterday performance was next to nothing.maybe Keshi thinks that he can fool us or even that we do not watch the game. The truth is that our boys did not in any way empress us, perhaps they empress the coach. If we must do well in this competition we must play as those who have focus. Anyway we can still do better but I really know that if we can't defeat Burkina Faso which is considered to be the cheapest in our group, then we cannot make head-way. The patriotic Nigerians will keep supporting our guys but they need to make us proud. The statement that they gave everything does not in any way qualify that yesterday's performance. let hope that the future games will yield good result, but I really think that Zambia will not tolerate nothing less than winning the game, it will not be easy; that is the fundamental truth.

All I can say is shame!

All I can say is shame! Shame! Shame! A team that cannot defend a goal in less than 30 seconds to the end of a crucial match is nothing but mediocre. Super Eagles' performance was simply a total disgrace.

failure of eagles

Our type of game since the days of westerhoff is fast pace
But in recent times we play very slow game, mikel and yobo
Made our game very slow, why didn't keshi feature the boys that played venezuela? Dey are better than dez.we need to play fast game if we wanna go far,if keshi still features mikel and yobo in next match, den we nt gonna go far.
