Video: "Ghettorization" Of The Poor People Of Lagos: Ayobo-Ipaja Road 12 Years Waiting!

Lagos State is witnessing some positive 'transformation' but not so for the those resident in poor areas, the "deodorization" of the upper class areas is met with a corresponding "ghettorization" of the poor areas.

The people of Ayobo-Ipaja now claim the Lagos state government is turning them into "wretched of the earth". Ayobo-Ipaja road is just one out of the many unreported abandoned roads in Lagos. From the failed promise of 8 years by the government of Bola Tinubu and then almost   4 Years of Lagos "wonder" Governor Babatunde Fashola. The people of Alimosho now resort to "spiritual intervention" hoping some day the government will remember THEY ARE STILL PART OF LAGOS.

My thanks

I realy thank God that Ayobo Ipaja Is going fine by now but the road contruction company are working but the job is too slow no worker please help us with this...

Failure of Government

Which community participation will should give rise to community leaders doing roads for the government when govt. is collecting tax from them?

Common Sense Issue

You started by acknowledging that the LASG is doing some good work but not in Ayobo-Ipaja. The reason is really not far-fetched.

Firstly, this was in the rainy season and anybody who knows Lagos will tell you that fixing a road in the middle of the rains is a waste of time and money.

Secondly, like any business owner knows, means are always limited so things are scheduled to be done in order of importance.

Total revenue to the LASG is about N20 billion in a month and you will agree with me that not all that money will be dedicated to the Ayobo-Ipaja road when there are other roads and infrastructure to consider.

Personally, I think Fashola took on too much when he came into government. To correct the infrastructure and public services anomalies of the previous years in Lagos, you need more than N25bn a month. All his initial successes was due to the windfall he got from the Federation account; the LG funds held by OBJ that Yaradua released. So he had enough money to do several things at the same time but since that cash flow dried up, follow up has been more difficult.

The Lagos-Badagry Expressway alone would gulp whatever is left of N25bn after paying salaries and overheads.

Another thing is that people's expectations have been heightened following Fashola's early performances in other parts and areas of Lagos such that patience has worn thin. Everybody now wants his own to be done like yesterday. The fact is that unless there is a dire emergency, the Ayobo-Ipaja road will still be like this for some time.

Tell yourself the truth, in order of 'importance' among the LGs/LCDAs in Lagos, how high do you think Ayobo-Ipaja ranks? Compared to Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, Agege, Ojo?

The fact is that every area is complaining. And rightly so too. Fashola is like a polygamous man who married 57 wives. Each wife believes he is spending more time and money on the others more than on her.

Particularly where the man has the reputation of a stud. Every wife believes he is sleeping with the others more than her. With only 30 days in a month, how long can the poor man sleep with one wife out of 57 in a month?

No good roads in Lagos

There is too much noise on the good performance of Fashola. People who benefit from his governance made the noise.

Lagos State makes internal generated revenue that is more than 10 billion Naira. This is without Federal allocation. With Federal allocation and Value Added Tax share, Lagos State generates more than 15 biliion Naira every month.

If we want to assess Fashola's performance, multiply 15 billion Naira by 42 months he had been in the helms of affair, and compare this income with present development in Lagos. If all money is seriously tapped, Lagos is boast of 35billion every month because all Lagosians know that State Internal Revenue had been contracted out to private contractor since.

We need to appeal to Fashola to spend part of this money to develop rural and suburb areas like Ayobo, Ajegunle, Ikorodu,Igbogbo, Agric,Igbogbo,Imota, Epe, etc. The success of any governance is determined how it takes care of suburbs. Lives are not easy in Lagos suburbs and that is why mortality rate is high.

Our appeals go to Fashola to make a tour round rural areas, wake up and fix all the roads.

What?

There are several others that you wont even believe are part of Lagos State.
Fashola is running Lagos like a business venture, investing only in places he could reap from. He wont put a road in any place, unless there's some special money-making project that's connected with the road.
The same Fashola has been to Meiran, in Agbado Lagos. That road till today has destroyed several lives and wrecked hundreds of cars with its several craters. The same with Ajegunle and Kola road in Agbado, as well as most of the roads within Bariga.
The governor is too busy with his white elephant project and he's desperately shopping for cash for his new airport in Lekki and some other useless non-mass benefiting mirage like that. Talk of priorities; should BRF be building markets? Building malls and halls? I thought thats the work of private individuals.
When will this man learn to do that which is necessary? If BRF does whats necessary, development will come more rapidly to Lagos.
Shame on this elitist governor.

Let help ourselves if the Government will not.

You mean to say  the entire community of Ayobo Ipaja has been waiting for twelve years for the Fashola  to do something.

Pigs style is for pigs, muddy and smelly.  Kayode, you need to put the camera down grab a chovel and lets get to work, we have a community to fix.

Where are the Bales?  where are the Omo oniles?   Where are the community leaders?   Most of what we see in the western  countries are direct result of community participation.

Ayobo Ipaja,  talk is cheap. Ayobo Ipaja please show us the way.  Ayobo Ipaja please show the  world what could happen when  people take controll of thier community.

Forget Fashola.  Kayode Ogundamisi  don't  tell us what needs to be done, show us.

Strike Fashola out of office

This is unbelievable!! I the "god of thunder" would have to strike those responsible for the sufferings of my people in this area. When you watch the CNN you see how Fashola is busy reclaiming the Atlantic Ocean to build the so-called new city of Lagos, meanwhile, there are no roads,no water, no electricity in the Mainland of Lagos. The money he is wasting sand filling the Atlantic ocean is enough to provide better infrastructure for the people of Ayobo. Go to the city of London, every part of that city looks the same. Here in the city of Lagos, the rich men area of VI is different from the poor men area of Ayobo.I the "god of thunder" have therefore, found Governor Fashola guilty as charge, I have decided to strike him out of office in the forthcoming election, period.

where are the clappers?

Where are those people that clapped for Fashola in London?where are they? We need them to clap in this instance. A man was asked specific questions, instead of answering in specifics he was just stalling using rigmaroles yet some people were clapping.
What made it more annoying was that some tarts were demanding that he deserves respect when in actual fact he was the individual behaving as if the money is his. He is working on a single lane in Lekki, yet he is doing toll gates to cover the additional 2 lanes he never worked on yet we are being regaled with stories that he is a "super star".

Where is even Joe Igbokwe? the man who is ready to jump out if this story were on IBB(a vermin in his own right). He would have been spewing his normal diatribes against IBB. Hypocrisy doesn't pay.

Wayo wayo!

Dat gala boy don speak for

Dat gala boy don speak for everybody. Naija people hate change, dat na why ashawo like Atiku, killer like Babangida and ode like Jonathan wan be presido for Naija. Gala good O! Gimme gala Fashola, make you forget our bad road plus the sorrow we dey there.

FASHOLA AT PASTOR KUMUYI'S WIFE'S FUNERAL SERVICE

In his response to a demand by Mr Babatope's (former MD of defunct National Concord Newspaper)request that the Lagos state Governor was going to issue out an executive fiat that the notorious Ayobo Ipaja road should be renovated; Gov. Fashola told the mammoth crowd at the burial of Pastor Kumuyi's wife early in 2009 that he was going to act on the request, up till this moment nothing has been done, except for the activities of the LCDA chairman - Adebisi Yusuff who is noted for digging sound to sell in the name of drainage and partying almost every month. You only need to come and see what is happening on this road during the raining season, it's a hell of an experience. Every time I use to wonder if we have anything call Government in this country at all and we are compelled to pay taxes that we don't know what they are used for.
The same thing is applicable to Meiran Ile-iwe road in Agbado Oke-odo LCDA under Old Alimosho Local Council. The chairman there is so irresponsible that you can not point to anything he is doing in the LCDA. I learnt that Fashola passed through the road early this year and expressed his disappointment and even summoned the LCDA chairman on the deplorable state of the road. Nothing is going on now on the road and raining season is just around the corner. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IS THIS HOW WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SUFFER UNJUSTIFIABLY IN OUR COUNTRY IN THE HANDS OF OUR LEADERS?
I strongly believe God that He will raise up for us, leaders who will speak and act on their promises and be empathetic with the plight of the citizenry. Good day to parliamentarians.

Citizen Reporting at its best

Innovative for Nigeria so kudos to SR.

We should all get off our fat behinds and do something similar.

Tony Smart I hate your type.

Tony Smart I hate your type. When people are talking you should better shut up your mouth. We the people know the pain we pass through on Nigeria roads with ‘tokunbo’ cars we can afford. We are concerned about Lagos state development. It's worrisome while people could be dancing and clapping for Fashola giving them more strength to continue looting. Nigeria leaders are corrupt with no exception. Fashola makes over N10billion through internally generated revenues besides the federal allocation and yet we are not seeing the positive effects of this money on the roads and general infrastructure. I spent good amount to gain a degree without relying on Nigerian government because it is my responsibility. The government of Nigeria can never put on our tables. We toil daily and work hard for our lives.
What we are simply saying is accountability and even distribution of wealth of the masses in Lagos state. Let them realized that the while men who created GRA did so to separate themselves from other colours. Fashola and I wore same colour so I feel stupid for this ill treatment and continued promises and still lying.

i wonder where you people

i wonder where you people complaining anonymously were when the voting process was on? I dont understand why people feel they can't walk in govenment house if there's anything they don't feel right about, have you ever been to your local government to complain about anything? Stop being a fool? Act first before complaining.

Sahara Reporters Chop Knuckle Jare, GBAM!

Even if SR's intention was that of being the Devil's Advocate, it has indeed proved worthy, look at reactions of Lagosians and see what I mean. Some have pointed out areas that have been neglected for soooo long, check out Ikorodu, the state of degradation is paradmosically unphanthomable (sorry Hon. Obahi... my friend)

Articles like this are very much needed in our society, most especially in Lagos state where praises of exceptional performance by our governor keep coming up left, right and center. This to avoid a sense of "I don try now" and look for better ways of improving the living conditions of ALL Tax Paying LAGOSIANS.

The Real Thing's needed  in less developed areas , no 3Ds please.

Leave Sowore alone

@Abbey UK, leave Sowore out of this ,l came back from naija recently, and l came back with loads of videos, and photographs i,e MMA Toilet, OJodu road death trap, mass hold on Lagos -Ibadan express way ,collasped bust stop shed, LASTMA Gangterism, WAI & Naija police brutality, bad customer service at the banks and what have you, flies infested meat and prawn@ the markets stalls etc. Listen mate, do not see things from a face value, there are alot of things bad down there in 9ija. Mate you lv in the West wise do not be deluded

TINUBU IS THE PROBLEM OF LAGOS

I THINK THE PERSON TO BLAME FOR THE STATE OF THAT ROAD IS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE LOCAL GOVT AND ALSO TINUBU,WE NEED TO PROBE HIS{TINUBU} ACTIVITIES FOR 8 YEARS IN LAGOS THE ROADS HE CLAIMED TO HAVE DONE IS WHAT FASHOLA IS DOING NOW THE BRT PROJECT HE CLAIMED TO HAVE DONE WAS FULLY IMPLEMENT BY FASHOLA ALMOST EVERYTHING HE CLAIMED TO HAVE DONE FOR 8 YEARS IS THE SAME THING FASHOLA IS BUSY DOING SO I DONT KNOW WHO IS FOOLING WHO AMONG THE TWO OF THEM. IN MY OWN OPINION FASHOLA HAS DONE EXCELLENTLY WELL FOR THE 4 YEARS HE WAS IN CHARGE AT LEAST WE CAN POINT TO HIS ACHIEVEMENT BUT THE SAME CAN NOT BE SAID ABOUT TINUBU. PLS LET US GIVE HIM SOMETIME ROME WAS NOT BUILD IN A DAY.

OMG!!! U NIGERIANS SHA

What do u want from fashola? ehn? haba! look let me tell u something....Fashola is not the cause for the state of the Lagos roads... previous Governors are. Fashola has layed out a plan on fixing every bad road in the metropolis.... why would he deviate from that plan just because u are posting videos on ur website.... very ridiculous! Haba... Mr Kayode Ogundaimisi is just angry cause the man said he doesnt read sahara reporters.... smh

if you live in this area you

if you live in this area you will appreciate what sowore is doing. This same fashola when the GS of deeper life lost his dear wife he came visiting and made all the promises in the world we are still waiting , not to worry 2011 election is coming only a bastard leaving in this area wilvote ACN.

I really admire your comments

I really admire your comments and respect them..However I believe we should all focus on the issues here rather than calling names, I dont think I insulted anyone here when I made my comment.
In as much as I concur with most of you that Fashola may not be a perfect man, we all have to give him some credit for what he is doing because I believe we should be balanced in our criticisms especially when we compare him with the other state governors and even the president.
And for those of you who think I am a beneficiary of Fashola, I am sorry to tell you that you got it all wrong!!
Thank you all
God bless Naija

This is What You call Abracadabra Governance!

Fashola may be doing "wonderful" things in Lagos as I had written in a previous article but as I also said, these are not reflective or indicative of the amount of money available to the state for development.

It is easy to deceive Nigerians with mirage, such as Fashola and Ojuyobo are doing, but having said all these, I would not deign to compare him with the likes of Akala, OGD, etc.

Kudos to SR and Kayode, our public servants need to be kept on their toes lest they start to believe their own lies!

Utter lack of governance

I saw for myself the deplorable state of the Ipaja-Ayobo road last month when I visited home. It is astonishing to note that there is currently a constitutionally elected government in the state that is aware of the condition of the said stretch of road and yet, there isn't any programe of reconstruction in place four years down the road (actually, twelve years, inclusive of Tinubu's tenure). Why the governor won't replicate the current reconstruction and introduction of toll gates being undertaken on Lekki Road in far more needy areas must elude the imagination of the suffering masses in the worst affected areas.

Very unfortunate, but the choice of governance employed by Mr. Fashola has not appeared to reflect democracy - even more regretable that he is a legal practitioner.

political deodarization of our conscience by d ghettorized minds

There is no governor, appionted or elected in LAGOS state, who has not been turned into a super designer baby or nominated the governor of the year by the media in Nigeria. Tinubu has just been named the leader of the year by leadership newspapers.
May be for throwing the raggish para-military ideas Atiku attempted to sell to him through AC. The type of media hype displayed on performing artist like (Ribadu Tinubu) who also falls into that category, is too scary for some of us.
Governors now work through the media instead of the plebians who elected them. Its very sad to say the least. People are being deceived daily while they fill their pockets with the loots of the state, in readiness for the next election. That is the way we play politics in Nigeria. Bribe youths with 10,000 to stage protest matches in the morning, then turn themselves into anti-corruption crusaders in the evening.
The story is the same from Zamfara to the waterside under the control of His Royal highness, Gbugburu the 1st of pitakwa, Chief court elect Rotimi Amaechi and Pa sniffer Sylva. Its been lies, lies, and more lies. The roads around the country are an eye sore. There is no law to regulate the movement of tankers drivers who kill the masses that Fashola also promised to protect when being sworn in- as governor of Lagos state. We heard how Ribadu swore to deal with Tinubus corrupt activities. No sooner had he dropped the mic from where he vultured those words, than he teamed up with the very man he described as the lucifer of corruptin in Nigeria. Yet the so-called SNG of Bakare has been living and riding their imported cars on these same roads for years without seeing them. All they are concerned with is to conduct surveys on how to instal Buhari as the president of Ijebu Ode, in the Marokor of their victoria Island.
A man who locked up Jakande inside Kirikri prison for reasons best known to him is now their most beautiful bride. Fashola, pls the spirit of Awo beckons on u to do something urgent about the Ajegunle and Iyabo Ipaja in your eyes.
We cannot continue to have the ghettorized minds of Atiku, Buhari, Ribadu and Ciroma attempt to deodorize us with their smelly fulanized ethnic ideas again in the 21st century Nigeria.Cheers and Cheers again until the people of Ayakoroma in the Niger Delta are set free by the UN, d struggle continues. Che sara sara

This is a disgrace

This situation is completely disgraceful. Fashola's government is as inept a government as one can find anywhere. Are you kidding me? With the amount of revenue generated by the government, the "development" in the state is just pitiful. The Lagos press are completely useless as well because all we hear is how the man is doing wonders.

Having said that, the residents of Alimosho should cut down on the prayer sessions and instead embrace forceful but peaceful protest. They should send a warning to the state government first, and if not heeded, the can send their vote elsewhere. Nonsense!

Quick Analysis

Fellow people,
I will like to start by saying that I am not holding brief for Fashola. However, I would like enlightened individuals to answer the following questions below:
(1.) How many kilometres of roads does Lagos State have?
(2.) How well inhabitated is Lagos? I hear it has about 18 million residents.
(3.) How much does it cost to maintain that large population?
(4.) Is there any other city-state like Lagos in Africa and Nigeria with such huge population? I hear Cairo is one of such. How much does it cost them to maintain their city.
(5.) Does Lagos have to go on a borrowing spree to maintain her roads?
(6.) Is Lagos State generating enough for the optimal development of her state?

Recently, I heard that it costs over 1 million Naira to tar about 10 metres of road (I may be wrong). Using this statistics, it is obvious that LASG has to embark on a queuing schedule for road constructions and its other capital projects. The "contentious" 18 Billion Naira LASG generates monthly can NEVER be enough to accelerate the pace of development in Lagos. More than 50% of residents in Lagos may not paying taxes and they expect the government to perform magic. The irony of it is that hundreds of people troop into Lagos daily further stressing the available facilities. It will take huge input from the Federal Government for Lagos to overcome its problem. Lagos is a struggling city and until then, I rest my case!!!

EVERY NIGERIAN MUST READ THIS

Brilliant speech! Ribadu will do whatever he says he'll do. I'm a die hard supporter of competence, integrity and good governance.

If you want Ribadu to be the next president pls. visit www.ribadu2011.com to donate to support his campaign.

However, if you are a beneficiary of or happy with the current despicably poor state of things in the country and do not want any change, you're free to continue to write disparaging remarks about Ribadu on this board and embrace the likes of IBB, Atiku...to fix Nigeria. They have a TRACK RECORD for FIXING Nigeria, so go with them!

I want you to remind you that this is not just about you, it's about the future of your children and grand children who will have to deal with (while you're gone) and continue to languish in the jungle of incompetence, corruption, nepotism, poor infrastructure...

If you do have some conscience, love of country and would like to see the beginning of a true transformation of our beloved country in your lifetime, I urge you to support Ribadu.

I just donated to the campaign, I urge every Nigerian all over the world to do the same, no matter how small for the sake of the future of our children. Visit www.ribadu2011.com

Lets spread this video in all social media

Fellow Nigerians, we all know the power of d media particularly the social media as very powerful.
Please i urge us all to share this video/article all over the social media (facebook, twitter, etc) available on the internet.
NTA, Channels tv, etc and all the newsprint media in lagos have been compromised to hype Fashola on lagos news they would never show this type of video.
The social media is our last hope to get our voice heard. There must be equity in the provision and distribution of infrastural development in lagos state. Come to think of it, Alimosho is home to over 2 million people. Most of the money generated by Fashola is spent on VI, Ajah, lekki where the very few super rich lives. This is calous, unjust, unacceptable and a deliberate and calculated attempt to gethorize the poor masses.
Lets join hands to condemn this wicked act of Fashola and his government.

Ikorodu's cas us a surprise

If I may ask Governor Fashola, is Ikorodu not lagos state? Or what has Ikorodu done to be overlooked since 12years of Tinubu-Fashola administration. Does it mean Ikorodu is so poor that Lagos state government does not derive anything good from the area? Does it mean that the residence of Ikorodu does not pay their taxes or that, what they pay is not enough to consider the area?
Ikorodu is too big to be abandoned and perhaps one day Fashola or any future ACN governor of this state will tell us specifically why they have chosen to relegate Ikorodu or found it not worthy of attention in their scale of preference.
I have said it before that our leaders don’t learn anything from the abroad they travel every time. They fail to understand the importance of even distribution of wealth. It is amazing that in Nigeria, government will concentrate in a particular area of selfish interest and abandon certain other areas. I know certainly that Gov. Fashola will come on board to state his usual reasons for neglecting this whole area that is even large enough to be a state of its own. Right from Mile 12 stretch to the various streets, nooks and crannies of Ikorodu wore a complete face of dilapidation.
But no matter the pains of this neglect, we will continue to vote ACN as far as Lagos State is concern!

SR Thank you for bringing

SR Thank you for bringing this kind of pictures for the public to see.
Remember alimosho is where Tinubu and ACN guys have been winning thier votes ,it is on record that alimosho constitute over 40% of ACN votes nd stii you deprive these people basic amenities of life.
i travelled through that road last two weeks and my car was stucked on that road nd yet ACN guys will be making noise that they re performing.
Honestly speaking we need a total change in governance.
