Our attention has been drawn to the above petition as published in your website and wish to respond as follows;
· Eddy Onyenweuzo & Sons account was maintained under the Key Distributor Finance Scheme (KDFS) which qualifies customers for overdraft facility for payment of goods supplied by Unilever Plc.
· In line with the executed agreement, customer irrevocably and unconditionally covenants that all sales proceeds received from selling of Unilever Nigeria Plc products will be paid directly into its account with UBA in furtherance of the facility advanced by the bank.
· Further to the executed agreement, Eddy Onyenweuzo & Sons was offered overdraft facilities from November 2001 to February 2006.
· Consequent upon customer’s request, account was analyzed in terms of deposits received, invoices debited (remittance to Unilever), interest charges on facilities and other incidental charges.
· Contrary to the allegations and demand for a refund of N38.9M for over deduction, the customer is in fact currently having an outstanding debit as at 30th September, 2009, due for repayment to the bank.
From the forgoing it is clear that the allegations and demand are baseless. The facts stated above have been communicated, with supporting documents to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in response to a petition from him.
We therefore advise Eddy Onyenweuzo to desist from the campaign of calumny and settle his company’s outstanding obligations to the bank.
