Beko Ransome-Kuti Burial starts in Lagos, Tributes in New York, Chicago, Washington. DC and Los Angeles

In line with the burial arrangement organised for late Beko Kuti, today, mariads of people from all walks of life - local & international; civil society, politicians, activists and freedom loving people converged to honor the man known as "Bekololari Ransome-Kuti. The colloquium was held at the Rotary Club Sports Ground, Anthony Village Lagos Nigeria.  Also, tonight is 'Solidarity Night' the same venue, featuring afrobeat performances by Seun Kuti and the Egypt 80 band amongst others. Tommorow is the lying-in-state @ the Onikan Sports Stadium, Lagos Nigeria.   Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti stood for many causes and millions of people across the globe. He fought for democracy and human rights. He championed the cause of human dignity and good governance. He was hounded, humiliated and jailed by successive regimes in Nigeria, but he remained undaunted, unbowed and uncompromised till his death.  He died on Friday February 10 2006 at age 65 of lung cancer. He was buried in Lagos Nigeria on March 4th 2006. Groups of Nigerians in the US organized tributes to the departed activist, Beko Ransome Kuti, in four major US cities.  The tributes took place in Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington DC and New York City.

When Friday, March 3, 7:00pm     Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti was arguably Nigeria’s foremost pro-democracy and human rights activist. The last of the Ransome-Kuti clan, he championed the cause of human dignity and good governance. He was hounded, humiliated and jailed by successive regimes in Nigeria, but he remained undaunted, unbowed and uncompromised till his death.

Dr. Beko Ransome Kuti died on Friday February 10 2006 at the age of 66.
