BREAKING NEWS...Gov. Ngige of Anambra State deposed

March 14, 2006
Governor Chris Ngige of Anambra state was removed from office today by the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu in South Eastern Nigeria, subsequently the court declared Peter Obi of All Progressive Grand Alliance party (APGA) winner. The court of appeal upheld the ruling of the Anambra State Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier confirmed him as the winner of the election.

It will be recalled that Anambra State had been in political turmoil due to the refusal of Chris Uba the acclaimed “Godfather” of Anambra State politics to accept defeat in a battle of wits supported by president Obasanjo. This had led to the abduction and unconstitutional removal of the governor from office, the stripping of his security detail and arson and destruction of Anambra state properties by gangs believed to be Chris Uba’s loyalists.

Governor Chris Ngige came to power under controversial circumstances; he was a product of the flawed April 19th 2003 elections in Nigeria adjudged to be the most rigged in the history of Nigeria. He had since turned against his “godfathers” adopting a confrontational stance against President Obasanjo who is also angling to run for a third term in office, some political analysts believe that Ngige’s removal through the courts was the end of a battle that the president had fought against him on all fronts. Now that he is out of the way, one more state governor is depleted from the 'opposition' to President Obasanjo's third term agenda.
