Ekiti Deputy Gov. 70 Million mansion and Fayose's biz associate dies mysteriously in Ibadan-PM News

July 31, 2006
More information are emerging concerning the looting spree in Ekiti State. This morning EFCC sources revealed that the commission is investigating a N70m house bought three weeks ago by the state’s deputy governor, Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi. The house, a twin duplex, is located at Wale Taiwo Close in Magodo Estate.

According to our sources, the house was purchased by a company called Arribond Limited for N25m from the original owner. About a month ago it was advertised for sale in a national newspaper. Mrs. Olujimi was said to have shown interest immediately and it was sold to her at N70m. When our reporter visited the house yesterday, renovation work was going on as the twin duplex is being converted to a single mansion.

A security car with a covered plate number was seen parked in front of the premises. On inquiry from neighbours, they identified the man who brought it and who supervises the renovation as Daddy Warri, a nickname for Mr. Olujimi, the deputy governor’s husband.

Our photo editor, Mr. Idowu Ogunleye’s effort at taking the photograph was resisted as four tough looking men gave him a chase. He, however, managed to get a shot from a distance. Another 32-room hotel being built by Mrs. Olujimi has also been discovered in Akute, a suburb of Lagos by operatives of EFCC.

The property, according to sources, was bought about three months ago and construction work is going on at the site. Early in the week, the remains of the owner of the land buried on the site was exhumed. Olujimi’s agents, according to our sources, are negotiating with the owners of the mosque close to the proposed hotel to acquire it. At about 8.00 O’clock this morning, Olujimi visited the site to warn workers not to offer any information. She left the site for the Federal High Court in Ikoyi.

“I have been nice and generous to you. Please you have to pay me back in that manner,” she was quoted to have told workers and some residents who came to see her. A petrol station in front of the house of Baale Asore, in Ajuwon, also an outskirts of Lagos, EFCC sources said, has been bought by the Deputy Governor for N22m.

Meanwhile, Olujimi visited the EFCC headquarters yesterday evening but was not seen by any of the officials there. “We are yet to complete our investigations. When we are through we shall talk to her,” said an official yesterday.

Mrs. Olujimi became deputy governor to Mr. Ayo Fayose less than a year ago. She replaced Mr. Abiodun Aluko who was impeached for his effrontery to question the disbursement of money for the Ekiti Poultry Project. Olujimi was a media aide to Fayose and later became a member House of Representatives when Ekiti lost one of its reps who was murdered on Lokoja Road, Abuja.

Olujimi and Fayose are believed to be very close and both were on their way to London last week when Fayose’s P.A. was arrested. They both suspended the trip. Meanwhile the five members of Ekiti State House of Assembly who were arrested last week were yesterday granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commision (EFCC).

However, their travel passports were seized to prevent them from fleeing the country. They were expected to report at the EFCC’s office in Ikoyi this morning. The lawmakers are Ola Olusegun Festus, Eyeowa Sunday Gabriel, Mrs. Oluwafemi Christiana O., Owoeye Olusegun Emmanuel and Oluyemi Olusegun Olatunji. They were arrested at the Ikeja Airport while trying to escape from the country when they got wind of the plan by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest them.

A business associate to the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, and one of the men in charge of his property and finances in UK, slumped and died yesterday. The man identified as Bola Walker who is the PDP chairman in London is said to have arrived Nigeria two days ago in connection with the ongoing problems the governor is facing.

He stayed at Fayose's house at Iyaganku in Ibadan. He was said to have called on some of their mutual friends yesterday to discuss the problems facing Fayose. Information are still sketchy on the cause of his death. Bola Walker had in the past sponsored adverts to congratulate Fayose in the Nigerian media.

P.M.News this morning spoke to another Fayose's friend and contractor based in Ibadan. The man commonly known in Ibadan as Jogo, confirmed Walker's death and said that they are moving his corpse now and that we should call back later for details.
