Just before the bubble around Gov. Fayose of Ekiti State busted last week, he was actually hit with a string of financial tragedies during his last visit to the US. The governor who was guest to Ooni of Ife during the graduation of six of his kids in New York was hit with traps set by his accomplices in the UK and US.
Impeccable sources close to the governor said his friends in London had already gotten wind of the impending doom. They gradually had begun to dupe him of his share of their mutual transactions. While he was in London a friend of his was said to have sold two luxurious cars bought for him in his name. The cars a Jaguar X8 and a high end Mercedes Benz E-class salon car of the 2005 model were ‘disappeared’ from the garage where he usually kept them.
Contrary to his denial of his arrest, he was actually stopped and briefly detained by the UK customs at the airport in London and questioned about the large sums of money in his possession. He was later allowed to go after he provided fake project papers to the UK customs regarding transactions he claimed was taking place in the US.
Saharareporters gathered that Gov. Fayose brought in the money to bankroll the party on behalf of the Ooni of Ife as he celebrated the graduation of his kids out of Queens, New York. The Ooni of Ife is currently leading the pressure to get him off the hook with a powerful lobby said to be following President Obasanjo around the country to prevail on him to let the “‘son’ go Scot –free and sin no more”.
After Gov. Fayose was accosted by the UK customs he quickly left London in tow with his London–based mistress, Florence. She was abandoned in New York because the Gov. claimed he was attending a meeting at the US State Department-There was no information at the state department regarding his visit- as his US –based associates convinced him there was another girl in the Maryland-Washington DC area they had secured for him. He abandoned Florence and went straight to Washington DC where another girl, Ngozi was awaiting him. Unknown to Governor Fayose, Ngozi had been put up to dupe him by his close friends and associates. She made away with sums close to $250,000 and a credit card issued to Gov. Fayose by Bank of America from his hotel room. Fayose had to be bailed out by some of his aides who lent him money to go back to Nigeria.
He was coming back to the US under the pretext another official tour with his deputy and long time accomplice, Mrs. Olujimi via London when his aide, Goke Olatunji was picked up at the airport by the EFCC.
