DR. AYODEJI DARAMOLA, MINIM, JP

FEHINTOLA COURT

1 OTUNBA ATUNLUSE CRESCENT

IGBOKOYI ESTATE, IMORU IJAN

EKITI STATE

Deputy Inspector General of Police,

“B” Department (OPS),

Force Headquarters,

Abuja, FCT.

Dear Sir,

APPLICATION FOR SECURITY

I am Dr. Ayodeji Daramola, the Otunba Atunluse of Ikogosi-Ekiti

Atunluse of Araromi-Obo Ekiti

Maiyegun of Odo-Owa Ekiti, and

Atayese of Igbara-Odo Ekiti

I am a native of Ijan Ekiti, in Gbonyin Local Government area of Ekiti State.

I was the General Manager/Secretary to the Board of the World Bank Assisted Poverty Reduction Project in Ekiti State between November 2000 to May 2005, when the present Governor in Ekiti State decided to intimidate and force me out of the assignment.   I am currently at the World Bank, Nigeria country office, Abuja as a consultant on this same project nationwide.  He claimed then, that I was too popular in the state for his liken.

It is however true, that the good people of Ekiti State, based on the successful handling of the World Bank Assisted Project, has encouraged, and continue to encourage me to become the next Governor of the State.  This has fuelled my personal political ambition to heed their call to run for the office of Governor of Ekiti State.

The Campaign should have long begun but we are being careful since the incumbent Governor has been harassing the opposition with thugs and weapons to maim and destroy such ambitions.  His agents have intimated me severally and I am beginning to be uncomfortable with this situation.  Various characters parade my country home at nights and my security man chased off at Ijan.

I am a member of the People Democratic Party, and intends to contest on this platform to become the next Governor of Ekiti State, by the grace of God.  Insha Allah.

Based on the above, we respectively request for your assistance in providing security in our homes in Lagos and our country home at Ijan, Ekiti State.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ayodeji Daramola

Murdered governorship aspirant, Dr. Ayo Daramola left hints of those to be held responsible for his murder shortly before he died in the early hours Monday. In a letter he wrote to the police and copies of which he kept with Lagos based lawyer Mr. Femi Falana, Daramola frantically demanded to be given police security as various characters parade my country home at nights and my security man chased away.’’

In the letter addressed to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, B Department (OPS), Force Headquarters, Abuja, FCT, Daramola told the police that the people of Ekiti has been encouraging him to become the next governor of the state. This call he said has ‘’fuelled his personal ambition to heed their call to run for the office of Governor of Ekiti State’’.

Hi s campaign, he further wrote in the letter, ‘’should have long begun but we are being careful since the incumbent Governor has been harassing the opposition with thugs and weapons to maim and destroy such ambition. His agents have intimidated me severally and I am beginning to be uncomfortable with this situation’’

Family sources this morning said the police did not heed his call. He was also said to have made representations to the commissioner of police in Ekiti who according to relations also shunned him. Mr. Falana this morning corroborated this and gave an instance when he felt his life was threatened in Ekiti and called the commissioner to provide him protection in a court premises. The commissioner Mrs. Peace Okoronkwo who the rumour mill in the state claimed to be too chummy with the governor told Mr. Falana blatantly that she was not in his employ to ask to provide security.

That day Mr. Falana’s Lexus Jeep Tire nut was loosened at the court premises and the tire went off on the highway and the vehicle somersaulted several times before other road users rescued him.

It is not clear this morning if the Police DIG reacted to Daramola’s save my soul call but what is clear is that as at time of assassination he was not provided police protection.

In the last two years in the state groups and organizations have cried out on the security situation in the state. Notable indigenes such as Afe Babalola, Mr. Falana, the wife of the  Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Mr. Babafemi Ojudu, Managing Editor of The News, retired University registrar, Chief Alex Ajayi and about thirty governorship aspirants in the state have at one time or the other received death threats from the governor’s agent. He himself have on several occasions boasted publicly that he will give it everything it will take to ensure that nobody defeats him in his bid for second term.

When the attempts on the life of prominent lawyer Chief Afe Babalola was made public some months ago, President Olusegun Obasanjo set up a security panel to probe the killings in Ekiti. The panel interviewed several indigenes and investigated several killings including that of nine students of Ikere College of Education, one Mr. Tunde Omojola, the attempt on the life of Mr. Taye Fasuba , a local council chairman removed by Fayose for crying out over deductions Fayose was making from local council fund. The Obasanjo panel submitted its findings and indicted Fayose and his aides over the killings and recommended their arrest and trial. In spite of the fact that the president friend and lawyer was a victim of Fayose, Mr. Falana told us this morning that Obasanjo has not find it fit to do something about it.

Daramola’s family and friend this morning told PMNEWS that if the IG is sincere about finding the killer of Daramola he should arrest one Alatise a retired policeman who was presented to the police as Daramola’s relation. Alatise the family said had been presented to journalist as well as police authorities by Fayose. The man was said to have told them that the murder of Daramola was armed robbery as he was aware he had a huge sum of money at home. The family said this man was presented to deceive investigators. ‘’We do not know Alatise; he is not a member of our family. We do not know how he got his information,’ a family member said this morning.
