Governor Fayose to be impeached, arrested and prosecuted

September 28, 2006

Saharareporters, New York

With the speed of lightening, the political temperature in Ekiti State has changed. Last night, about 24 members out of the 26 members of Ekiti State House of Representatives served an impeachment notice to the embattled governor, Ayodele Fayose and his deputy, Mrs. Biodun Olujimi. The notice was a long rap sheet including all the allegations of corruption by the EFCC against the governor and his cronies.

Following the news of the impeachment notice, the people of Ekiti State went on wild jubilation today leading to increased police patrol of the state capital Ado-Ekiti. It is not clear if the governor is still in Ekiti State as sources said he had planned on fleeing the state after Saharareporters made full revelation of the involvement of the governor and the arrest of his CSO last week. In that report we disclosed that the IG had arrested Mr. Gbenga Joseph as well as other key members of the “Killer Squad” in Ekiti State while the SSS had also declared some of them wanted, it took the police authorities a full week (9/28/2006) after our report to disclose the arrest of Gbenga Joseph to the public.

It is now clear that the police authorities have full information from confessions by arrested persons that Governor Fayose was behind the political motivated killings in Ekiti State. The latest confession came from a man, Prince Segun Bamiteko who kidnapped a pregnant woman for rituals on behalf of the governor in 2003. The Inspector General said to be initially complacent about investigating Fayose was allegedly told to act or lose his job by president Obasanjo who received a detailed report from the SSS about Fayose’s deadly activities in Ekiti State.

A respected source told Saharareporters that Fayose’s “Killer Squad” was conceived in London shortly before the 2003 elections; they were perfected in Ibadan, Oyo State and later moved to Ekiti State complete with affiliation to some editors in the mainstream print and electronic media. “By the time they moved to Ekiti State, they had money, drugs and enough thugs to turn the place into an urban warfare scene and that is exactly what they did” shortly after that an Alliance for Democracy (AD) woman leader, Mrs. Aborisade also known as “Mummy Thatcher” was bathed with acid and she died a few months later. Though, no serious connection was made to Fayose’s killer gang, it is believed that Mummy Thatcher’s popularity amongst the grassroots was a threat to PDP’s intention to capture the Southwest from AD.

Since 2003, it has been one political killing and violence or the other orchestrated by Governor Fayose and his “Killer Squad”.

Going by events that are fast unfolding, Governor Fayose may be impeached by the end of next week, if he is not aided to flee the state as he currently plans. Sources told Saharareporters, that the Inspector General of police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero met with President Obasanjo yesterday and gave him an update revealing that Fayose was behind Dr. Ayo Daramola’s murder as well as other politically motivated murders in Ekiti State since he came to power. Attempts by Chief Bode George and Chief Ahmadu Alli, both PDP top chieftains to save Fayose might have failed as his official police security was drastically reduced by the police authorities earlier today while the police have taken over strategic locations and institutions in Ado –Ekiti.

If impeached, Governor Fayose faces murder as well as corruption charges according to our sources
