Ekiti State: Chief Justice, Belgore, IG and Commissioner of Police accused of corruption.

October 13, 2006

 Saharareporters, Lagos

The Investigation Panel set up by acting chief judge, Aladejana wrapped up their public sitting today in Ado Ekiti taking public testimony from individuals and groups which include the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Olujimi and Gbenga James, the managing director of Biological Concepts limited. The panel was constituted by Justice Aladejana after 24 lawmakers of Ekiti State house of assembly rejected the one set up by the chief judge of the state and put the chief justice on suspension.

Shortly after concluding today’s hearing thugs brought in to Ado-Ekiti with the help of Chief Adedibu invaded the house of assembly in Ekiti State damaging and destroying everything they could find. The embattled Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose was also seen driving around Ekiti State warning that he will “maim and kill” anyone who may be involved in his planned impeachment. He was seen accompanied by thugs who cheered him on. Sources told Saharareporters that 18 buses came in to Ado-Ekiti from Ibadan, Oyo State earlier today in readiness for a showdown with members of the Ekiti State assembly, who are expected to receive and deliberate on the reports of the panel set up by the acting chief judge.

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Belgore who earlier declared the newly constituted investigative panel, “null and void” was accused along with the Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero and the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Ivy Okoronkwo as alleged involved in a “bribe scheme” to wriggle the governor out of the corruption scandal currently facing Fayose and his deputy, Mrs. Biodun Olujimi. According to information available to Saharareporters, the current security protection offered to the 24 legislators was not provided by the inspector general of police and the Ekiti State police command. Our source revealed that the presidency was directly involved in providing security. This is perhaps why the president had insisted that his will be done in Ekiti State by imposing the deputy governor on the opposition groups.

A snippet from the 24 legislators shows that the impeachment of Governor Fayose might take place tomorrow or early Monday morning. The legislators, once again, went into hiding after thugs invaded the House of Assembly after today’s sitting.
