Gov. Ayodele Fayose missing, will be impeached

October 14, 2006
Saharareporters, Lagos

Saharareporters was informed earlier that the whereabouts of Governor Fayose, the embattled governor of Ekiti State, could not be confirmed today as soldiers from adjoining Ondo State cordoned off the state house in Ado Ekiti.

The news about Fayose's whereabout became fierce when he refused to show up at a rally he planned for 2:00 PM (Nigerian time) with market women, taxi drivers and thugs imported from Oyo State did not hold. The governor was no where to be found and his assistants and commisioners also did not show up at the venue of the rally.

Unconfirmed sources said he might have fled to Ibadan, Oyo State on the pretext of visiting his enstranged father and also to pay homage to Chief Lamidi Adedibu, who we reported yesterday, had provided 18 lorry loads of thugs from Ibadan to help Gov. Fayose cause mayhem in Ado Ekiti today. A security source told Saharareporters that Governor Ayo Fayose must have bribed his way out of the Governor's lodge as early as 4:00 AM today! He did not preside over official duties as expected today and he was nowhere to be found near his Afao Ekiti country home which also cordoned off by security agents.

As earlier reported, the non-cooperation of the IG of Police, Sunday Ehindero , and the state police commissioner was reflected in the manner some thugs who vandalized the state house of assembly were allowed to 'disappear' into the premises of the state house by police officers who had been in their pursuit.

There are serious, but unconfirmed indications that Governor Fayose was earlier arrested by SSS men in Ibadan, Oyo State. He is expected to be led to Ado Ekiti tomorrow where a full detachment of officers of EFCC lay in wait for him to be arrested as soon as he is impeached by the 24 legislators of Ekiti State house of assembly who plans to adopt the report of the investigative panel which recommends Gov. Fayose's impeachment from office, the panel also recommends the impeachment of his deputy, Mrs. Biodun Olujimi.
