Oyo State latest : Illegal Gov.Akala Faces Arrest-PM News Lagos

November 22, 2006

There are indications that the embattled Governor Of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, may be arrested by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as soon as he is removed from office. Sources at the EFCC told P.M.News this morning that the governor’s impending arrest may not be unconnected with the phony contracts the governor has awarded in his short time in office.

It was gathered that the governor has allegedly looted the state’s treasury through the contracts he allegedly awarded to his cronies and his political godfather, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, who was awarded a huge contract to renovate Mapo Hall. Although our sources did not mention the contracts, it was gathered that the governor allocated huge funds for some projects in the state which were not properly executed, adding that it was obvious the funds were diverted. One of our sources said: “ Governor Akala will definitely be picked by our commission as soon as he leaves office. He will not have immunity then. If you commit a crime you will pay for it.

“Akala has committed financial crimes and he will not go unpunished. Some cases have been established against him, so we are compiling documents to effect his arrest”. It is likely that Akala will be thrown out of office on 7 December by the Supreme Court where he ran to after the Appeal Court quashed the impeachment of former Governor Rasheed Ladoja by the 18 legislators. Already, Akala has said that he will abide by whatever decision the Supreme Court takes.
