Following the declaration by the UK Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Gozney that two more state governors are being investigated for possible money laundering offences Saharareporters confirmed from a UK security source earlier today that Governors James Ibori and Lucky Igbinedon may be the two governors under scrutiny over money laundering charges.

Indeed, our source stated that the Metropolitan Police, Customs and Immigration officials both at Heathrow and Gatwick Airports in London have been put on alert to apprehend the governors if they step into the UK. He however said these ‘warrants’ are subject to ‘political and diplomatic considerations’. When pressed further for explanations about what he meant by “political considerations” he hinted that the situation with the Niger Delta region is of primary concern to the British government. Insisting that the governors are central to the safety of British citizens in the region, as such nothing may be done to clamp down on them because their arrest may escalate the militancy in the region where the British government and multinational oil companies have considerable interest.

He said that President Obasanjo and the EFCC, where aware of the desire of the UK government to step down on James Ibori of Delta State in particular. Though the security source said his men were unhappy about the situation since there exist concrete evidence linking the duo with illegal money laundering activities in the UK, he maintains that they sometimes defer to superior political and regional interests as well as unique cultural circumstances in dealing with cases of this nature.

Governor Lucky Igbinedion of Edo State owns mansions in the choicest parts of London, one of them is known as “Kenwood Mansion” a piece of property worth close to $3 million pounds with an array of posh cars parked and covered up in the compound, though some sources said he had since evacuated some of the cars to an unknown destination in London.

Governor James Ibori is also well known to have about three multi-million pounds houses in London some of them purchased in the name of his wife, Theresa –Tessy-Nkoyo- Ibori. He also owns a few luxury cars which includes a Bentley parked in his garage.

Both governors where said to own huge bank accounts at Natwest and Barclays banks with millions of dollars in those accounts.
