The continued investigation of Rivers State officials led to the arrest and detention of Rivers State house of assembly speaker, Mr. Amechi last night, sources said he is being held in their Lagos office for interrogation. Mr. Amechi joins the Rivers State commissioner of finance and accountant general, both of whom have spent at least one week in detention already. Speaker Amechi was the "annointed" candidate of embattled Governor Peter Odili at the Rivers State PDP primaries, he won the 'election' and was announced the official candidate of the PDP in the state.
Meanwhile, Saharareporters gathered from EFCC sources that President Obasanjo has mounted pressure on the EFCC to soften their stance on the Rivers State governor who was accussed of looting the state's treasury to start up ARIK Airline, but the EFCC, we learnt was determined to unravel the Peter Odili fraud in Rivers State because his particular corruption had become a source of embarrasment to the EFCC's work.
