Former Water Resources Minister, Muktar Shagari was dropped as PDP gubernatorial candidate for Sokoto State. The former minister said to be in "shock" was personally told by President Obasanjo to forget about the PDP ticket. Sources told Saharareporters that he will be replaced by a former deputy to Governor Bafarawa, Alhaji (Dr.) Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko who recently decamped to PDP from ANPP.
After the message was delivered to Shagari his household was very depressed by the development, it took the combined efforts of Alhaji Muktar Shagari and the elderly former President Shehu Shagari who stayed on the phone with Mrs. Maryam Shagari to calm her down.
President Obasanjo promised to "find something" for Muktar Shagari, who rejected the offer politely by asking Obasanjo not to worry about him. We have no information as to why the former minister was disqualified as at press time.
