It has been said in the open and in hush tones. If there is a state governor that is most reckless in public corruption, Governor Lucky Igbinedion of Edo State ranks number one in this position of infamy. With his style of governance you could not distinguish between his personal estate and public resources. "As bad as reckless come, this fellow is personally, morally and financially reckless" noted an Edo State indigene based in Canada.
What beats the imagination of the Nigerian public is the complete silence of the EFCC on the activities of Governor Lucky Igbinedion, even though EFCC agency officials secretly take foreign media men on tour of his multi-billion naira mansion in Abuja, the capital city, nothing has been done to openly apprehend this crook in Edo State.
Our investigations shows that governor Igbinedion owns properties in New York, where he maintains a penthouse in Manhattan overlooking the Central Park, he owns several properties in London and at least one in Paris. He also owns several properties in three South African cities amongst several other business concerns that is now being investigated by South Africa's Directorate of Special Investigations, an arm of the national police known as "The Scorpions".
Saharareporters gathered that the Directorate of Special Investigations -Scorpions- from South Africa have been on the trail of Lucky Igbinedon-visiting Abuja with help of the EFCC to conclude investigations over Lucky’s criminal activities in South Africa. Their latest visit was as recent as two weeks ago when they came to verify his income status put against businesses and properties in Nigeria and South Africa.
Meanwhile a group named “Kobohost” out of Britain and Nigeria have begun to expose the corruption of Mr. Igbinedion, back in February they launched a website documenting properties owned by the governor as well as stories associated with is legendary acts of recklessness as a public officer. The website -www.luckyigbinedion.info- is updated regularly with pictures of properties owned by the governor.
