Ondo State Indigenes drag Agagu to court over corruption

March 20, 2007
Ondo State indigenes mainly from Ilaje Local government area has accused the Ondo State government of embezzlement of funds meant for the Oil producing region which were allocated to the state by the Federal government through the constitutionally mandated 13% derivative allocated to oil producing states.

In a lawsuit filed by Prince Olu Mafo on behalf of six plaintiffs from the Ilaje area, the lawsuit joined the state government, the governor, Mr. Olusegun Agagu and eight others- which includes controversial former member of NDDC, Mr. Olusola Oke. The plaintiffs sought declarations and injunctions against the respondents to the effect that they have mismanaged financial resources allocated to the region for purposes of redressing environmental degradation arising from oil exploration.

The suit made a point of accusing the governor and his cabinet members of embezzling close to N40 billion of monies meant for the development of the region.

The full declarations are contained in the affidavit filed by the plaintiffs located at the e-Library.

In another development, a group led by Chief Edwin Clark, a prominent Ijaw leader has dragged the governor of Delta State, James Onafefe Ibori  to the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking the power of the court to force the EFCC to investigate the governor for corruption. The plaintiffs have already been granted a leave by the court to enforce their fundamental human rights with regards to their prayers.

Saharareporters can confirm that the Delta State governor is under investigations by the Metropolitan Police in London over money laundering activities. The governor will be arrested any moment he steps into London the same way Mr. DSP Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State was arrested and tried by the British Metropolitan Police before jumping bail. Sources at the EFCC said they have completed full investigations on the governor and can move against him anytime, but his role in funding the electioneering campaign ofPDP Presidential candidate Umar  Yar'dua will make that impossible in the meantime. Governor Ibori is the biggest financier of the election of Umar Yar'adua in Nigeria today!

It will be recalled that the British Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Grozny recently mentioned that two South South governors were under investigations by the Metropolitan Police, Saharareporters had reported that he was actually talking about Chief James  Ibori and Lucky Igbinedion of Edo State who is equally being sought by the South African Directorate of Investigations known as "SCORPIONS".
