"Corporate Nigeria" raises N3.2 billion for Andy Uba.

March 24, 2007
A group of notorious businessmen who struck gold under the Obasanjo regime made a show of their illegal wealth in Lagos on Friday as they raised N3.2 billion for controversial Anambra State PDP gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Emmanuel Nnamdi 'Andy' Uba.

The group which calls itself “Corporate Nigeria" is made up of bank executives, oil and sugar barons, amongst others range of shady businessmen who act as fronts for President Obasanjo. They were single-handedly responsible for funding the ill-fated Third Term campaign which would have seen president Obasanjo remain in power for another four-year term beyond May 29th 2007 but for concerted efforts by the civil society, media and the national assembly.

The fundraiser was attended by Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Jim Ovia and Mrs. Onyuike Okereke.

Though  election laws prohibit governorship candidates from raising more than N200 million, Mr. Andy Uba is known to have spent close N10 billion already in canvassing for votes in Anambra State, the state where he and his younger brother , Chris Uba  burnt down public buildings and facilities owned by the state in 2003/2004 with the help of street thugs.

Opposition candidates have accused Andy Uba of bribing the electorates as he distributes bags of rice, motorcycles and cars at his campaign rallies. The Independent National Electoral Commission cannot reign in Andy Uba because he had nominated the Chairman, "Professor" Maurice Iwu to his current position.
