Nuhu Ribadu's tenure extended-promoted to AIG

April 10, 2007
All seem set for Nuhu Ribadu to become the Inspector General of Police as sources in Abuja today told Saharareporters that his tenure as EFCC Chairman was extended by President Obasanjo earlier today.

Also, he was promoted to the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) two steps away from becoming Inspector Genral of Police.

Nuhu Ribadu could not be reached by our Saharareporters per his reaction to the promotion. In recent times, the EFCC chairman has been heavily criticized for being selective in the anti-corruption war in Nigeria, a charge he denies.

Political updates:

PDP Central Working Committee expels Ararume, Guber candidate in Imo State and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State.

The duo were expelled by the party's CWC for challenging the decision of the party to replace them as candidates in the law courts.

Ararume had won his case against his replacement up to the Supreme Court level while Amaechi continued to challenge the party over his replacement in the courts.

With Ararume's expulsion, it is clear that the PDP has forgone its chance of running in the gubernatorial elections in Imo State on Saturday as there are no provisions in the Nigerian constitution for independent candidates.
