Supreme Court Rules In Favor of Atiku

April 15, 2007

As reported by Sahara Reporters last week, President Obasanjo had to declare two days of public holidays to frustrate an expected ruling of the Supreme Court which was going to favor Abubakar Atiku.

But that did not seem to deter the justices of the Supreme Court, earlier today, the Supreme Court sitting in Abuja ruled that INEC has no right to exclude the Vice President from the upcoming presidential elections. Further investigations reveal that the ruling might lead to a postponement of the upcoming Presidential Elections scheduled for Saturday April 21 2007 as INEC is left with no option than to reprint new ballot papers. Ironically, any postponement of the elections tallies with President Obasanjo's desire to prolong his rule.

Following widespread discontent and national political crisis trailing the gubernatorial elections last week, it seems that President Obasanjo and his party operatives may be overwhelmed, leaving them with a few options.

Saharareporters can reveal that there is ongoing crisis in Ondo, Osun, Edo, Adamawa, Enugu and Kano states where protesters have stormed the offices of INEC to protest massive electoral fraud that characterized last weekend's elections.
In Ondo State, there seem to be conflict between the Resident Electoral Commission in the state and INEC headquarters, while INEC headquarters had declared Olusegun Agagu as the winner of the elections, the state INEC officials said they were still collating the results. The same have occured in Delta state. In Osun State over 40 houses have been burnt down by voters protesting the rigging of the elections in favor of the ruling PDP.
