Femi Fani-Kayode's Girl Friend arrested for Money Laundering

June 28, 2007
Attempts by one Chioma Ansoh to ferry large sums of foreign currency to London was scuttled by customs officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja earlier today.

Chioma Ansoh is a mistress to the immediate past minister of aviation and former spokesperson to ex-president Obasanjo, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode.

Saharareporters reliably gathered that Chioma Ansoh was escorted by Femi Fani-Kayode's people at the airport onto the plane without due security clearance usually followed by regular passengers. A custom official noticed the irregularity and protested leading to her arrest and detention by the Nigerian customs, who later found close to $240,000 on her. Suddenly Femi  fani -Kayode allegedly showed up at the airport to plead that she is released claiming that her continued detention could lead to the loss of his ministerial slot in the Yar'adua's government.

In other news today in Abuja, Chief Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria forcefully conducted a PDP Board of Trustees meeting in which he took over the chairmanship of the Board of Trustees from Chief Anthony Anenih. The meeting which was originally billed for 8:00PM was shifted to 10:00AM, it held and adopted the former president as BOT chair, in the absence of a quorum. He was said to have forced his lackey, Umar Musa Yar'adua to attend the PDP meeting even though , he Yar'adua protested feebly that he was "busy". He is also said to be 'fighting' hard to include Andy Uba, his former domestic assistant on the ministerial list as at press time. Already as reported by Saharareporters, Andy Uba was screened out of the list of ministers. Yesterday he planted stories in a daily newspaper that he had rejected overtures by Yar'adua to be made minister in anticipation of his failure to make the initial list.

In another development, a proposal to make former military governor of Lagos State, Mohammed Buba Marwa the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has drawn protests from combined team  of security  agencies involved with screening the list of ministers. They have pointed to his indictment over money laundering matters. Marwa was cited by the EFCC, arrested and detained two years ago for money laundering which involved former maximum military leader, Sanni Abacha. Buba Marwa was accused of setting up an airline-Al-Barka Airline- with proceeds of laundered money.

Also former Kaduna State governor, Makarfi and Muazu (formerly of Bauchi State) are individuals being considered for ministerial positions whose inclusion have faced protests from security agencies on the account of recent discoveries of huge fraud perpetrated by them in their respective states.

Meanwhile, thousands of Enugu State  indigenes protested against the EFCC earlier today over the swearing-in of their former governor as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The ex-governor of Enugu State, Mr. Chimaroke Nnamani who was declared wanted by the EFCC and charged to court in absentia was indicted for looting Enugu State, he initially fled the country but was persuaded by Umar Yar'adua, the illegitimate president of Nigeria in a deal said to be brokered to gain the support of the former governors. Yesterday, Mr. Nnamani was sworn-in as a senator.

Since coming to power, Umar Musa Yar'adua had asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to step down its anti-corruption activities against former state governors earlier indicted for corruption.
