For the house of Oduduwa in the diaspora, unity has fallen apart. A bitter fight has risen between The Egbe Omo Yoruba, North America concerning its intentions, programs, mission and mode of operations. Those who disagree with the main stream leadership of the organization are alleging that “pecuniary gains” are being pursued with discredited home based political leaders of the estimated forty-five Million Yoruba people.

According to information reaching pointblanknews.com, the organization led by Mr. Adeola Odusanya is said to be dogged by series of disagreeable initiatives “purported to be inimical to the lofty aims and objectives of the organization.”

Allegations are flying around that the group which should have mounted pressure for the actualization of respectable socio-political practices in south-western Nigeria and Nigeria as a whole is being used to confer legitimacy on elected officials who were said to have come into office during the last general election in Nigeria through less than transparent process. It was said that the association decided to “honor” some state Governors who handsomely financially reached out. Each of the Governors was said to have actually given $10,000 to the inner caucus of the socio-cultural group.

Odusanya is being asked to give a true account of his stewardship especially his purported close rapport with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar during the third term debacle with President Olusegun Obasanjo. Sources told pointblanknews.com that Odusanya claimed that he was representing the core interest of the group during several meetings with the embattled ex-Vice President.

The organization has invited an array of Yoruba successful leaders from all walks of life for its annual convention slated for Baltimore, Maryland between August 2 and 5 2007. But some members of the group especially from the Greater New York chapter are promising a rowdy session for the day.

Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State is said to have already confirmed coming for the occasion. Others expected are Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Governor Bisi Akande, Oba Sonariwo Akarigbo of Ijebu Remo, Olu Awotesu, second Republic Minister and Cecilia Ibru. Corporate organizations expected are Fidelity Bank, PHB Bank amongst others. But the dignitaries may run into a wall of protest on the D- day.

Reacting to the allegations leveled against him and other leaders of The Egbe Omo Yoruba, North America, Mr. Odusanya told Pointblaknews.com in an interview that “whatever you do when you have five to ten people in an organization, some people would disagree with you. For those who have been causing confusion, the issues have been resolved.”

He explained that he and other members of the leadership of the group have not solicited or received any money from any governor, saying “we have never received any money from any governor.”

On a planned award to the governors, he stated that “the presidential award is from my discretion as the President. The award is for their achievement, for honoring our invitation and also letting them to know that they have to stop the killings and political thuggery in Yoruba land.”

Odusanya added that there would be a closed door session with the governors and political office holders where they would be “appealed to and asked to concentrate on developmental projects for the people.” But the closed door session is a major issue raised by Odusanya’s opposition who argued that the closed doors are meant to “grease the palms of the leadership of the group as have been done in the past.”
