The Southwark Crown Court in London will review the assets forfeiture case against James Ibori on October 1st 2007 to further strengthen of money laundering case against the former Delta State governor.

The court granted an Application of restraint on Thursday August 2nd 2007 in relation to worldwide assets of Chief James Onafefe Ibori worth approximately £17 million/$35 million.

According to the court papers, the application was made by the London Metropolitan police under the "Proceeds of Crime Act" and these extensive applications relate to business and private finances of the former Delta State governor.

Indigenes of Delta State upon learning about the assets freeze order jubilated across the state, so many of them asked the EFCC to arrest the ex-governor and prosecute him immediately. It is widely believed that Chief Ibori enjoys protection at the highest levels of the Nigerian presidency having contributed massively to the fraudulent elections of the current occupant of the presidency, Umar Musa Yar'adua.

Another source told Saharareporters that Chief James Ibori maintains a killer squad and funds Niger Delta militants operating the Warri area. He was linked to kidnapping of expatriates, a strategy which has paid off very well. Because he is well feared by oil companies, he bought off Willbros Nigeria Limited and also forces expatriates to patronize his charter airline-Wings Aviation Nigeria Limited. Delta State indigenes point to the death of many indigenes of Delta State through suspicious assassinations sponsored by Ibori and the current Delta State governor, Uduaghan who they claimed is worth N9 billion.

Prior to becoming Governor of Delta State, James Ibori was also accused of being a member of General Abacha killer squad; he was allegedly involved in the killing of Chief Alfred Rewane a bigtime financier of the opposition movement, NADECO.
