Micheal Aondokaa rebuff of Metropolitan Police: London Metropolitan Police Reacts

September 26, 2007
A short e-mail to Saharareporters from Helen Kennedy of the the Mets Press office reads:
"We can confirm that two Met officer's from Economic and Specialist Crime Directorate recently attended Abuja to discuss several on-going investigations. The officers returned to the United Kingdom after two days. Not prepared to discuss further. Did the officers meet with the Attorney General? They did not meet with the attorney general during this visit".

AGF Rebuffs Metropolitan Police visit to Abuja

An attempt by a two-man delegation of the Metropolitan Police in London to discuss the on-going investigations of Chief James Ibori with the Attorney General, Mike Aondoakaa was rebuffed by the AGF who is currently in New York as a member of the Nigerian delegation to the United Nations General Assembly.

The Met's had sought audience with the AGF and received approval to visit with him to discuss on-going investigations of former governors especially Chief James Ibori of Delta State whose worldwide assets worth N35 million were frozen by the Southwark Crown Court in London-the initial order was given on Thursday 2 August 2007  under the Proceeds of Crime Act. It relates to James Ibori’s businesses and private finances. The application will be reviewed at a further hearing on 1 October 2007 at the same court.

To the shock of the Metropolitan Police officers several efforts at reaching the Attorney General  are unsuccessful for two days in a row, apparently the AGF did not tell the officers that he was not going to meet with the team, an Aso Rock source told Saharareporters that the AGF has already told Yar’adua that he had a “good meeting” with the Metropolitan Police team. According to the Press Bureau of the Met's, the team has since returned back to London.

Meanwhile, Ibori’s sister, Christine Ibie Ibori, his longtime mistress, Udo Amaka Onuigbo Okoronkwo and his former personal assistant on confidential matters, Adebimpe Pogoson have all been reprocessed for bail at the Bail To Return (BTR) section of the Metropolitan Police. Last week after they were quizzed over two days last week in connection with ongoing money laundering investigations against the former governor. The Metropolitan Police Press Bureau gave their age as 37yrs; 47years and 41 yrs respectfully, and further stated that they were first arrested on April 12th 2006 and search warrant was issued and executed at two addresses with regards to the James Ibori investigation house in the Golders Green/Hampstead area and a flat in St John's Wood area of London.
