Five Undergraduates of the University of Ado Ekiti In November In 2007

April 18, 2008

The Commissioner of Police,
Ekiti State Police Command,
Iyin Ekiti Road,
Ado Ekiti

Request for investivation and prosecution of the police officer who executed five undergraduates of the university of Ado Ekiti in November 2007.

We are Solicitors to the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights – a leading human rights organization in Nigeria.

Our client’s instructions are briefly stated as follows:

1.    On November 27, 2007 five undergraduates of the University of Ado Ekiti namely Tosin Ibironke, Afolalu Adeyinka, Dele Olaleye, Idowu Animashaun and Ademola Adepoju were arrested by the Ekiti State Police Command under the pretext that they had committed “armed robbery”.

2.    Without any investigation whatsoever the five suspects were tried, convicted and sentenced to death by the Special Anti-Robbery Section.

3.    As if that was not enough, the Special Anti-Robbery Section proceeded to engage in the secret and brutal extra-judicial execution of the five undergraduates.

4.    Up till now your Command has not deemed it fit to inform the Authorities of the University of Ado Ekiti who are in loco parentibus to the slain students. Neither have the parents of the suspects be notified of their extra-judicial execution.

In the light of the foregoing, we have our client’s instructions to request you to fish out those who carried out the extra-judicial execution of the five undergraduates and arraign them with MURDER without any further delay.

TAKE NOTICE that if you fail to comply with our demand within seven days upon the receipt of this letter we shall not hesitate to initiate legal proceedings for the trial of the murder suspects.

Yours sincerely,

FEMI FALANA
