Saharareporters, New York

Yar’adua would be returning to Nigeria tomorrow (Friday April 25, 2008) after a contentious and challenging medical trip in Germany that lasted longer than initially announced if everything goes as planned by Nigerian federal government officials.

Saharareporters sources revealed that Germany-based medical doctors has advised Alhaji Yar’adua to stick around until Sunday (April 27 2008) before departing to Nigeria, but his prolonged stay in Germany has become a national embarrassment to his presidency.

A high-powered delegation led by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa went to Germany to finalize arrangements for his return to Nigeria by tomorrow evening. Aondoakaa is  expected back in Abuja tonight.

Yar’adua left Abuja suddenly on the night of Monday April 14th 2008 after he took ill. He barely managed to sign the 2008 budget from his private residence in Aso Rock and also had to cut away from a planned trip to Dakar, Senegal where he was billed to attend a meeting of African leaders. He arrived in Wiesbaden, Germany early Tuesday April 15th 2008 and checked into an undisclosed hospital in Wiesbaden near Frankfurt.

Federal government spokespersons had announced that he will be returning back to Nigeria on the weekend of April 14 2008, but that was not to be, another date of arrival widely reported to be Tuesday April 22 2008 also did not materialize as his condition did not permit his doctors to certify his return to Nigeria.

Impeccable sources told Saharareporters that Yar’adua was released from intensive care unit of the hospital on Friday April 18 2008. Even though his spokespersons said he was “fine”, a worrisome dimension to his health condition reportedly kicked in on Saturday, according to German sources. Yar’adua was said to have started "hallucinating", leading doctors in Germany to force him to stay back in Germany for critical observation.

“The president started glaring at people without blinking for close to two minutes at a time”, a source disclosed to Saharareporters.

The reports of a disturbing mental condition was attributed to the effects of some drugs used in treating symptoms of Churg Strauss Syndrome. Some of the drugs have high concentrations of Steroids, which may have triggered such strange behavior.

Yar’adua is no stranger to rumors of mental instability, during his campaign for the Nigerian Presidency in 2007, documents were circulated by his opponents alleging that he was a “mental patient” of an ex-service man in Katsina, his home state. The documents, which were widely circulated, also stated that the former Katsina State governor had scars of horsewhips on his back to show for his traditional psychiatric treatment in Katsina and Niger Republic.

So many Nigerian Federal and State officials have visited Yar’adua in Germany, including his close friend and minister for Agriculture, Alhaji Abba Ruma and the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Umar Moddibbo, but upon returning back to Nigeria they did not discuss his health condition with the public therefore raising anxiety in government circles that the “president’s” condition was bad.

Yar'adua is expected to return with his aides including his Nigerian doctor, Salisu Barau Banye, his wife, Turai and spokesperson, Segun Adeniyi amongst others.
