MEND denies involvement in Brass Island Attack on the Police.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has issued a statement denying involvement in the attack by youth groups on a Bonny Island police station.

The attack which killed five police officers were carried out by youth activists opposed to the continued detention and secret trial of Henry Okah, according to an e-mail sent by MEND’s “Jomo Gbomo”.

MEND Release:
The group that carried out the Bonny Island attack is not the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).   We have identified them as youths from the community  who are impatient with the government's handling of the Henry Okah case and have taken it upon themselves to participate in the struggle by acquiring arms for self defence.   MEND commends the community youths for their actions.   Jomo Gbomo
