Group Condemns Obstruction of Imoke's Arrest.

July 26, 2008
Its all a huge joke. If EFCC wanted to arrest Liyel Imoke, they would have done
so. Why should they stop action because of a phone call? ordinarily, when an
action to arrest is on, operators don't listen to calls, they first make arrest
and other instructions for bail via the courts can follow. Didn't they go with
arrest warrant? They are playing out a script.

RECALL THAT IT WAS THE IG OF POLICE, THE AG AND SOME FORMER/CURRENT CORRUPT
GOVERNORS INCLUDING GOV. SARAKI THAT BROUGHT IN THE NEW EFCC HEAD. THEY HAVE
BEEN QUIET ON SOME FORMER GOVS WHO WERE PROSECUTED BY RIBADU.

THIS EFCC IS FAKE,
DON'T BE DECEIVED. THE REAL TEST IS FOR THEM TO CONCLUDE PROSECUTION OF THE
FORMER GOVERNORS CASES ALREADY BEFORE VARIOUS COURTS. SOME EVIDENCES HAVE BEEN
DESTROYED, WHILE KEY PERSONNEL OF EFCC WHO WOULD HAVE FOLLOWED THE CASES TO
LOGICAL END HAVE BEEN RE-ASSIGNED OR MOVED OUT OF THE COMMISSION.

-IDEMUDIAN

Yesterday in Abuja, Nigeria fierce looking officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, acting apparently on the Petition presented by Transparency In Nigeria, Cross River Chapter and Cross River Movement For Justice, swooped on the palatial home of Mr. Liyel Imoke but failed to arrest him in dramatic circumstances, when a phone call came instructing them to abort the arrest. The beleaguered former Minister quickly escaped to take refuge in the home of the Senator representing his District in the National Assembly.

The Senator, we gathered quickly placed a phone call to the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who in turn complained to President, Umaru Musa Yar’adua and secured a reprieve through his Attorney-General, Chief Micheal Aondoakaa. The Attorney-General made a call to the hierarchy of the EFCC to suspend the arrest on the ground that the warrant which the EFCC officers were to use as the legal plank to anchor the arrest was not properly issued. Mr. IMOKE. Whose election as Governor of Cross River State of Nigeria, was annulled by the Court of Appeal on ground of falsification of results, made a dash to the airport and flew to Calabar to a big welcome party organised by his army of sycophants and bootlickers!

We condemn the method being employed by the Attorney -General to obstruct the EFCC from performing its statutory duties. We strongly frown at the effort by the Attorney-General to use his office to protect those who have the reputation of using their positions to plunder the resources of this hapless country, which is floundering due to the mindless thieving, greed and rapacity of its ruling elite.

It is clear that IMOKE is being shielded from arrest to protect him from accounting for the role he played in the apparent embezzlement and mismanagement of a whopping $16 billion budgeted to bail out the ailing POWER SECTOR, which has continued to cause enormous economic dislocation in the Country.

We urge all NIGERIANS to rise against the conspiracy of the ruling elite to sweep under the carpet the hideous crimes committed by IMOKE against his FATHERLAND. We condemn the desperate attempts by the political acolytes of Imoke to politicise the investigation of IMOKE who has always left tales of woes in all public offices he had held in the OBASANJO’S PRESIDENCY FROM OMPADEC TO THE MINISTRY OF POWER AND DEFUNCT NEPA AND HAS PROVEN THAT HE IS A BUMBLING INCOMPETENT AND AN UNMITIGATED FAILURE.

We THEREFORE call on the EFCC to take immediate step to arrest Mr. Imoke to answer questions on his mismanagement and embezzlement of a whopping $ 16 billion voted for the comatose POWER SECTOR which has taken a horrible toll on the National Economy. If the likes of MR.IMOKE are walking the streets of Nigeria, then there is no legal or moral justification for having prisoners in Nigeria. The Federal Government should simply open all the jails in Nigeria and allow those held there to go home.

WE COMMEND THE EFCC FOR RESOLUTELY AND VALIANTLY RISING TO THE OCASSION. THIS IS A CALL TO NATIONAL DUTY TO RID OUT FATHERLAND OF POLITICAL VAMPIRES AND URCHINS WHO HAVE BEEN FEELING FAT ON OUR COMMONWEALTH.
ACT TO SAVE THE CROSS RIVER STATE, SAVENIGERIA

I, write to most respectfully draw your esteemed attention to the political situation in the Cross River State of NIGERIA, and to draw your attention to the Political Situation in the Cross River State of Nigeria, and to humbly request that you consider taking action to end abuses there, as a patriotic duty.

It is a notorious fact that international and domestic observers were unanimous on condemning the 2007 general Election in Nigeria (as it the 2003 version) in Nigeria. In both cases, the Cross River State featured as one of the worst cases. What was concealed in this generation however is that most unspeakable machinations, which are introduced at election time, are sustained at all times, making social and political life, very suffocating.

In a recent interview syndicated in several newspapers, Mr. Liyel Imoke recently ousted as Governor of Cross River State, by the Court of Appeal, stated as follows:

‘All the 18 Local Government areas Chairmen, all the 25 members of the State House of Assembly are PDP. The entire system is a PDP affairs’

The gang in power in Calabar has achieved this state of affairs by the use of State Terror and also by debasing State Institutions, particularly the Electoral Commission, the Police and Judiciary. Also the Regime works with private armies, operating like the Janjaweed. Three Communities, Ebijakara, Ikot Ana and Obomitiat have been completely razed to the ground. Political Opponents are assassinated or maimed, their homes or business premises burnt down, and their associates routinely traumatized. The casualties include a Chief Magistrate, Maria Theresa Nsa, slaughtered after she declined to release cult members in her Court on bail who were working with Government.

The following are excerpts from the Court of Appeal Judgment in Appeal No. CA/C/NAEA/23/2008 between Dr. Paul Ukpo & Others V. Liyel Imoke & 2386 Others, which succinctly gives an indication of how the gang takes advantage of a conquered people at election time:

‘The respondent did not produce any (result sheets). The presumption is that the documents did not exist, or if produced, would have been unfavourable to them…There is no doubt that the failure of the respondents to produces forms EC8A, was fatal to their case, and substantially affected the result of the election, as there was no evidence how the scores allocated to the first respondent (Imoke) were arrived at. This issue is accordingly resolved in favour of the appellants’.

Usually very little voting is allowed; and even then, it does not count, as result sheets are given to the candidates of the PDP , to fill ahead of voting.

The situation is compounded by the presence of Liyel Imoke, stupendously rich from his assignment as Minister for Power and Steel. Some have said that he is rich in inverse proposition to the depth of darkness to which the country has been plunged.

The Courts in Cross River State have been so intimidated and cowed; the newspapers hardly accept copy that is critical.

HELP NEEDED

I solicit your support, to lend your weighty voice to my crusade to have the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Allied Offences Commission, the Code of Conduct Bureau, the Police and the other Security Agencies to hold Imoke to count; and blunt the machinations of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is desperately trying to return him to the Governorship of the Cross River State. The Constitutional Immunity he would enjoy is crucial to concealing slush funds concerning the POWER SECTOR, including the N84 Billion involved in setting up of an airline in the Country.
Let President Yar’adua prove, through Cross River State, that his regime is not in fact Obasanjo’s Third Term; and that he is serious about fighting corruption and electoral abuses.

Most of the people involved in keeping Imoke from arrest and prosecution, are heroes of the Obasanjo struggle for Third Term or live presidency. They include all the Cross River Representatives in the National Assembly.

I shall send your all materials pertaining to this matter as they are raised.

Yours faithfully

Okoi O. Obono-Obla
