MEND Condemns Naval Ratings Attack on Uzoma Okere

November 6, 2008
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) joins the host of upset Nigerians to condemn the primitive conduct by naval escorts to a rear admiral who had to whip and strip naked a woman for not moving out of the way for their boss in the Lagos state traffic.

Such an incident in the Niger Delta will go unnoticed as the people seem to have accepted the dehumanizing treatment meted out daily to them by the animals in uniform.

From using the military as debt collectors to extra judicial killings and razing of whole communities, these undisciplined men and women have made rubbish of the fundamental human rights of the Niger Delta people while their governors just sit and watch like zombies. We therefore commend the Lagos state governor for taking up the matter with all seriousness.

MEND will continue to play its role as the defender of the people in this regard and will act on behalf of victims against these criminals whenever it comes to our attention.

Meanwhile, our intelligence unit within the military identified the pilots responsible for the aerial attacks on civilian communities in Rivers state prior to the six day oil war.  We have taken time to learn everything about them. Their wings will be clipped and they will pay the ultimate price for those innocent civilians they killed at a time of our choosing as they can not hide from those they do not know. Effective today, November 8, 2008 they have been put on notice.
