Re-Jos killings: Failure of politics and leadership

January 1, 2009

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to draw your attention to the article JOS KILLINGS: FAILURE OF POLITICS AND LEADERSHIP by Is'haq Modibbo Kawu, currently published on your website.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('content1'); });

That article mocks the innocent victims of the barbaric attacks carried out by elements of the Hausa-Fulani community in Jos.

If you must know, Kawu, an Ilorin Fulani man, is one of the most retrogressive journalists we have in Nigeria and he's an apologist for the Sokoto Caliphate. And his attempts to relativise the mindless violence on unsuspecting and innocent Nigerians is callous. And your decision to publish the article is also bewildering.

Also, I would like to draw your attention to How the Police and Soldiers Massacred Jos Residents, a report by the Human Rights Watch. That report is very bias and portrays the perpetrators of the genocide as the victims. Please read between the lines.

It is curious that the organisation did not mention that hundreds of killers imported from Chad and Niger and armed with deadly weapons were deployed to massacre innocent Nigerians in an effort to cleanse the areas of non-Hausa-Fulani residents so that they can achieve a majority status in Jos North.

This is not the first time that the Hausa-Fulani will unleash violence on other Nigerians in the city in their Jihadist ambition to conquer the place. My uncle lived there for 45 years before he was forced to relocate several years back because of these violent attacks.

Human Rights Watch acts always in partisan manners when reporting on conflicts anywhere in the world. Remember how they have successfully misled the world on the true situation of things in the Great Lakes region and the role of Rwandan leaders in the gargantuan humanitarian disaster in the area in the last ten years

Please too many of our people – Yorubas and Christian Northerners and Southerners have been massacred in the North by Hausa-Fulanis. That is the fact.

Please remove the two articles on your website to honour the memory of the victims of the Jos Massacre.

Best regards,

Fatai  Agboluaje, London
