Letter to his excellency Atiku Abubakar, Former VP of Nigeria

January 23, 2009

Your Excellency,

My respects to you and your visiting delegation to Abeokuta. My sympathy to your loyal followers who through thick and thin, stood like a rock behind you in those rather turbulent days of a frustrating fight between you and former President Olusegun Obasanjo. That encounter was both good and bad for the democracy being constructed at that time. It is also my belief that the dark alleys we travel today with this administration is a fall out of that battle.

But for that encounter, perhaps, Obasanjo would still be President in violation of the constitution. That engagement was good for democracy as it brought out the maturity of politics over tribalism. And here, we must thank the patriotism of leaders in the South West of Nigeria. But for their maturity, that encounter would have served the serpentine cause of tribalism and religious bigotry. Curiously, most of your traducers were from your area. Many of those you brought into Government. Nuhu Ribadu, Mallam El Rufai, Jubril Aminu, Marwa, and many others. They positioned themselves most gallantly behind Obasanjo  as they threw huge missiles in your direction. Those who stood by you and fought the battle of their lives against Obasanjo were, curiously enough, people from Obasanjo's South West. They suffered a battering of their lifes and the citizens of the South West were not spared the collateral damage from this battle as Obasanjo deprived them of all their deserved benefits. Because the South West felt that your Excellency was unjustifiably oppressed, they took their suffering and pain in stride.

People like Bola Tinubu and his South West political machine, People who refused to betray you and chose to suffer even to the point of death are, thankfully alive to witness your personal reconciliation with your adversary as you "make moves to galvanise the Nation forward" in a direction we still cannot understand. I hope in your new matrimony, you did not forget to carry Otunba Adenuga along. Remember he had to go on exile rather than betray you as your Adamawa younger brother, Nuhu Ribadu went to break down his home at 2am in the dead of the morning. All in efforts to procure false evidence against you. His business suffered the most violation while the Dangotes of this World travelled around the World carrying extra oil licences in their pockets. Now, I notice you did not go to prostrate for Baba in company of Otunba Oyewole Fasawe. The man was in detention on your behalf for three months and even had to hide in a bush for days at Owo when Ribadu almost eliminated him. I feel confident that you must have briefed him and sought his permission to forge ahead with this experiment.

Now, how can we explain the noise from your Party, the AC. This was a party prepared for you by your political friends from the South West when PDP removed your name from their register. They claim you did not brief them before this adventurous journey to Abeokuta. If this is true, perhaps we should be educated by you on the creativity that informs this secrecy and the advantages you all will derive from it. First, what could be your mission to Abeokuta. Already, you have been fully demolished politically in Adamawa. Remember at the last election, you lost your ward to Admiral Nyako. Now, why does the PDP need your service when they got Adamawa in their pocket. Obasanjo needs no office anymore. What can you do for him. Why should he genuinely seek your friendship.

Many of the AC Governorship candidates in court and out of it have publicly complained that you are disloyal to their efforts to retrieve stolen mandate. They claim that immediately you lost your own election, you went to hide in the Potomac and not even a phone call came from you to encourage their war efforts. They say you contributed nothing to assist in their legal fees. If this is true, have you explained why they deserve no consideration from you after providing a landing platform for your political ambition? While Alhaji Rimi believes you are broke, that you may need the PDP for patronage and future ambition, I cannot understand why they would need you particularly that you cannot deliver any local government to them.

These are indeed confusing times for our citizens. It is tragic that a man in your position should add to their pains. Unless you have adequate explanation for what looks to all like political harlotry, you must apologise now before it is too late.
