Governors and Government Lodge Projects of Corruption

February 2, 2009
It seems that one of the areas through which the present governors use in siphoning funds is in government house projects. Their antics range from renovations, putting of additional buildings, and in one of the cases pulling down an existing one and building entirely a new one.

It was recently reported that the Jigawa governor Lamido is being investigated by the EFCC for among other things, renovating the Government Lodge in Dutse with the sum of only N300million. I wonder why EFCC should make issue out of this.

The Bauchi governor Yuguda is building additional Government Lodge at the cost of N1.4billion. This may not have drawn the attention of the EFCC for reasons best known to the graft organization.

Recently, PDP youth group in Kaduna faulted governor Sambo for trying to build another “befitting” Government Lodge with tax payers’ N3billion.  The youths saw this as a misplaced priority while other social amenities associated with the 11-point agenda of the administration have not been fully addressed.

The worst of the Government Lodge projects in this era is the one being embarked by governor Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State. He had pulled down the magnificent and former lodge estimated at N4billion and building a new one at a cost of N6.5billion.

If the EFCC is serious, they should investigate all the above because the masses are crying out. Anything to the contrary will be construed that EFCC operatives may have been settled. We wait to see.
