Aondoakaa and yar'adua's rule Beyond 2011

February 9, 2009

Dear Sir,

The Minister for Justice Mr. Michael Aondoakaa must be a joker for saying in The Punch edition of January 26, 2009 that President Yar’Adua would be fit to rule beyond 2011. Let it be tried that PDP nominates Yar’Adua for the 2011 and most voters in the country would prove that a less-known person contesting against him, would emerge the Nigeria President come 2011.

I would want to advice Mr. Aondoakaa that there will be no business as usual, as most people who voted Yar’Adua in the last election would not, next time around. Let the minister be advised also that no person would succeed any longer through vote-rigging. Nigerian voters are becoming wiser and would do everything to protect the votes they would cast.

All things being equal Yar’Adua would live beyond 2011. What people are saying is that his health may worsen or (even) improve by 2011 but the fact that he remains leader of a non-performing government, he will not be the President of Nigeria come 2011. And if PDP makes any mistake and decides to test the will of the voters, they sure would loose control of government at the centre that year. Let the party remember what happened to Ghana Kufor’s party recently.
