What INEC has cost us

February 28, 2009

Dear Sir: Since 2007 when INEC held the elections that have been adjudged the worst in history, INEC has spent untold Billions on legal fees and other logistics defending their illegalities. Who will bear the cost of the election petitions that have continued unabated since 2007?

The waste and lack of direction in office by unelected officials, the unearned emoluments that have been carted away by unelected officials and their hanger-on’s, the looting of the government treasury by those who know their elections will soon be upturned, the lost mandate of the Nigerian people, the cost of the election reruns, the human casualties, the cost of INEC propaganda, the cost of endless lobbying by the politicians to remain in power, the attempt to compromise the judiciary, the lost time etc. Who will bear this cost?

Am sure the money that has been spent since this sham called elections, could have been channelled to so many other productive sectors of the economy. Its high time Nigerians held INEC accountable for this monumental profligacy and also get serious about Election reforms, until this is done we will all be chasing shadows.
