Re- Akinyuli:Fresh soup in dirty soup-pot

March 21, 2009
Sir: You were rather gracious in your acquiescence that Nigeria does indeed need a "rebranding" albeit with a caveat namely setting and implementing new standards of patriotism, accountability, achievement, motivation etc, as against hitherto arrogance and perfidy of government, corruption with impunity, ineptitude, election rigging by officials amongst others which inadvertently result in unemployment, crumbling infrastructure if given at all vis a vis its ripple effect of people engaging in dubious means like 419 and armed robbery as you rightly pointed out.

Now I beg to differ one bit because like you also said "you can not chart a new part unless you pull the past out by the roots"and here then is my take;that new standards and reorientation are sure our only bet on a serious note, but not until they start yielding fruits (like say 65% regular power supply, apparent major improvement in road network with workable maintenance institution to wit, plausible minimum wage and reasonable remuneration of workers,fool-proof modalities for combating corruption in all places etc) any attempt at rebranding is spurious except, like you also opined, we as a Nation-epitomized by government-choose to live in denial.
