"Agbero" Politics of Dimeji Bankole

April 4, 2009

The Cross River Movement For Justice condemns very strongly the statement credited to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Deji Bankole, during the rally convened by the Peoples Democratic Party to campaign for the party candidate, Olusegun Oni in the forthcoming Ekiti State gubernatorial election scheduled for 25th April, that armed forces rather than the Mobile Police Force will be deployed by the Federal Governmemt to ensure the return to office of Olusegun Oni. We are hugely disappointed and indeed flummoxed that such an inflammatory, uncouth, despicable, reckless and thoughtless statement would come from a supposedly high ranking official such as Mr Bankole, who should ordinarily be a paragon of decorum, civility, comportment and sobriety. We are surprised that a man who was flaunted as a super elite ,youthful virility, celebral, articulate , well groomed and brought up should descend to the level of the gutter just to show that he is a party faithful and partisan.

But we wonder aloud how a person of the ranking of Mr Bankole should allow prejudices and partisanship to becloud his logic and reasoning to degenerate to the level he came while addressing the rally It is equally disappointing that Mr Bankole woefully failed to showcase the achievement of his party which should justify the electorate in Ekiti State voting for the candidate of his Party but he rather employed sheer bluffing and bravado to browsbeat and intimidate voters. It shows beyond a shadow of doubt that Mr Bankole is seriously deficient in the power of logic, dialogue, consensus, reasoning and grab which are necessary ingredients for politics as we have seen in the likes of Barack Obama. This is compelling evidence that Mr Bankole is a pseudo-democrat and politician. It is regretable that people of his ilk have through electoral shenanigan, roguery and manipulation found their way into positions of leadership in this hapless country which is continually floundering and faltering to the level of a failed state. We are not surprised that the leadership of Mr Bankole of the House of Representatives is such an unmitigated disaster. A good illustration is the charade which the House has made concerning a very important matter such as the probe of. the expeniture of how billions of dollars invested in the power sector during the Obasanjo, presidency was, through mindless corruption frittered away. The House of Representatives has become irrelevant, toothless and highly compromised. It has become one of the cesspools of waste, indisciple, corruption and mismanagement. This is why billions of naira would be spent to buy vehicles at grossly inflated prices at a time of crushing economic crisis that as reduced Nigerians into hewers of wood The truth is that Mr Bankole leadership of the House of Representatives is an unmitigated failure and a disgeace rather than taking umbrage under the protection of his party by being fundamentalist and overzealous to party causes in order to enamoured and ingratiate himself to party apparatus.Maybe Mr Bankole thinks mago mago tactics will be the reward for the Ogun State Governorship under his party come 2011.

It is unfortunate that while Mr Bankole's generation in the United States of America, Russia as represented by President Obama and his Russian counterpart are taking their countries to greater heights through responsive and rresponsible leadership , here he advocating the deployment of armed forces in the conduct of an election in order to undermine the Will of the people. It is a shame. We call on the good people of Ekiti State not to balk to the subtle threat and intimidation of Mr. Bankole but to remain resolute to cast their vote for the candidate of their choice. We believe that in the end the Will of the people shall prevail over the forces of fascism, militarism and backwardness. Aluta continue.
