The former governor of Jigawa State, Saminu Turaki is currently hospitalized at the National Hospital in Abuja, following a near-fatal auto accident today between Abuja and Kebbi.
Turaki, who reportedly suffered head injuries and fractures, was on his way to a wedding in Kebbi. He was in a bullet proof Hummer Sports Utility Vehicle popularly known in Nigeria as “Hummer Jeep” .

A source told Saharareporters that one of the tyres of the car exploded at high speed on one of Nigeria’s poorly managed highways. The source also said that Nigeria’s reclusive leader, Umaru Yar’adua, dispatched a police helicopter to fly Alhaji Taminu to Abuja for treatment.
His exact medical condition is unknown but sources at the presidency said he might be flown abroad for further treatment. Taminu faces over 100 charges of corruption, money laundering and theft of public funds before an Abuja High court. He is a close associate of Yar'adua's and a henchman in the ailing Nigeria leader’s plot to seek a second term of office.
