Honorable Kayode Amusan threatens TV panelists

April 12, 2009

Dear Sir: PETITION ON CRIMINAL THREAT TO LIFE AGAINST HONOURABLE KAYODE AMUSAN

I write to petition your committee in the case of criminal threat to life by Hon. Kayode Amusan representing Obafemi /Odeda Federal Constituency in Ogun State against my person, three other public affairs commentators and the Galaxy TV station based in Lagos.

(1) On Saturday 11th April 2009, I was a guest on Galaxy TV discussion programme (Editors Forum) along-side three other commentators: Messrs Achike Chude, Dipo Olayokun and Chukwuemeka Eze; between 2:00pm and 3:30pm. The programme was moderated by Miss Joy Ovhiawe.

(2) The panelists were invited to discuss the political impasse in Ogun State which had prompted the House of Representatives to take a resolution to the effect that should the State Assembly which has not sat for about 7 weeks now be unable to do so by 14th April, 2009, it shall take over its legislative functions. Clips were also shown of the vandalisation of the residence of Mr. Kunle Ojo, Galaxy TV’s correspondent in Abeokuta the day after Part 2 of a 5-series news features on the Ogun political crisis was aired on the station.

(3) As we continued to analyse the Ogun situation, a call came in from a man who introduced himself as “Kayode Amusan, a member of the House of Representatives”. He went on to give his own perspective on the situation in Ogun State.

(4) The said Hon. Kayode Amusan however caused panic in the studio and outrage among viewers when he accused the panelists of supporting those who are against the Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and issued a threat “We know all of you and at the appropriate, we will come after you one by one”.

(5) Nigerians who listened to his threat called in on the programme and after to express shock that the hallowed chambers of the House has such a character that would go on air to threaten the lives of other citizens.

(6) I have brought this to your attention so that you could do a thorough investigation on the matter and deal with your findings accordingly. This will go a long way in convincing Nigerians that the conduct of Hon. Kayode Amusan is not acceptable to the House and does not represent the general conduct of our esteemed Honourables.

(7) The Galaxy TV should be able to provide the recorded version of the programme where Hon. Kayode Amusan issued the said threat.

(8) I verily believe that your timely intervention in this matter may stop Hon. Kayode Amusan and or his supporters who have heard the threat from carrying it out.

Thanking you for your anticipated response.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Sir,

PETITION ON CRIMINAL THREAT TO LIFE AGAINST

HONOURABLE KAYODE AMUSAN

I write to bring to your attention and request your investigation of the case of criminal threat to my life, 4 other Nigerians and the Galaxy TV by Hon. Kayode Amusan representing Obafemi /Odeda Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

(5) I am calling for a thorough investigation of this threat by your office as it may prevent Hon. Kayode Amusan and or his supporters who listed to it on television from carrying out the said threat.

(6) I also do not want to take the threat lightly as your office should by now be abreast of all recent allegations of assassinations and attempted assassinations that have been linked to politics in Ogun State.

(7) The Galaxy TV should be able to furnish your office with the recorded version of the programme containing the threat.

Looking forward to your action.

Yours sincerely,
