STALEMATE: INEC plans to announce Ekiti Re-Run Election Results stopped by Ekiti People; INEC officials agree to a new feasible date for elections in Oye-Ekiti

Updates: The people of Ekiti succesfully forced INEC to suspend planned announcement of election results at twilight today by demanding that the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Ayoka Adebayo be made to announce the results of the election she conducted. According to reports from the collation center, venue of tumultous meeting, INEC had drafted the Resident Electoral Commissioner from Anambra State to announce some results believed to have been doctored by INEC but the public tension at the venue prevented him from venturing out of his car. Saharareporters could not confirm if he was at the venue at all as at the time of filing this report. The meetings between INEC and political parties ended on a "peaceful note" as it was agreed that fresh elections in Oye-Ekiti could only hold when it is feasible to do so. Mrs. Adebayo has reportedly flown to Abuja under pressure.


AC leaders and civil society groups succesfully resisted a plot by INEC to announce election results by a newly drafted resident electoral commissioner, the commissioner was brought from Anambra State. The resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti reportedly refused to announce prepared election results fearing that her actions would lead to a breakdown of law and order, she was immediately summoned to INEC headquarters in Abuja and another replacement was drafted to do the job.

Amid heavy rains that dispersed protesters momemntarily, INEC decided to announce results but AC party operatives resisted the move stating that it was illegal for a resident electoral commissioner who didn't conduct the election to announce its results. The parties reportedly agreed to conduct another election in Oye-Ekiti in two weeks time.
