We shall not Succumb to Intimation-JRC

April 26, 2009

The Joint Revolutionary Council, comprising  the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, The Reformed Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force & The Martyrs Brigade, has reinstated its determination to continue with its struggle on the Niger Delta, adding that  it shall not succumb to intimidation of any sort.

In an online message, signed by its spokesperson, Cynthia White and made available to Niger Delta Standard, the group acknowledged that some criminal elements may have infiltrated the Niger Delta struggle, but blamed the gross underdevelopment in the region on the political class.

“Let us remind us all that we will not succumb to the blackmail and intimidation driven by the likes of Gov Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State. While we understand that there are criminal elements within the ranks, we also know that the criminal elements within the political ranks remain largely responsible for the decadence and gross underdevelopment that Rivers State has suffered today”, JRC stated.

It however commended the Niger Delta Civil Society Coalition for what it described as a show of boldness through it recent release on the just concluded economic summit of the six South/ South governors.

“We wish to commend the Niger Delta Civil Society Coalition led by Anyakwee Nsirimovu for its boldness in bringing forth this statement. At a time when political and social groups have taken to blatant sycophancy and rent-seeking, it is inspiring to see that there are still those who can resist the lure of filthy lucre and remain committed to the true demands and desires of the people of the Niger Delta. We thank you all for your commitment and bravery”, it stressed.

It would be recalled that the Niger Delta Civil Society Coalition, recently issued a press statement describing the recently concluded South/ South governors Summit as a setback.
