"Democracy is in mortal danger if this Ekiti Robbery stands", says Lagos AC

May 4, 2009

The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has said that with the dirty and convoluted manner the PDP has gone ahead to steal Ekiti governorship election, there is no hope that democracy will survive in Nigeria. The party insisted that the AC won the Ekiti governorship election and urged the people of Ekiti State to reject this brazen imposition of a candidate that was beaten in an election but was imposed through the most absurd means.

In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the AC, Joe Igbokwe, Lagos AC said that since the PDP has decided that Nigerians will never have a free and fair electoral process where their votes will count, it behoves on all Nigerians to take up the struggle and free this nation from the evil grips of the PDP. It states that the AC will certainly retrieve its hard-won electoral victory from the hands of these remorseless vote robbers.

“We are watching as the show of shame orchestrated by the PDP for the purpose of stealing a mandate that had been freely given to Dr. Kayode Fayemi unfolds before the eyes of the entire world. We watched as the announcements of the April 25, re-run polls was held up so that the PDP can cook up enough phanthom figures to swerve victory to its side. We watched at the very shameful and the very complicit efforts by Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to force the Resident Electoral Commissioner to accept fake results and use it to give the PDP a tainted, smeared and fraudulent victory.

“Since the brave and valiant Ekiti people decided to ensure that such naked, atrocious and brazen imposition is frustrated, we have watched with keen interest as the various layers of the PDP, coordinated by the presidency and the full cohort of the security agencies and INEC have been meeting on the best possible ways to force Oni and the PDP on Ekiti people. We have watched as the PDP hierarchy and their cohorts in INEC have tried several ways of sending notice that it will never allow the people of Ekiti to decide who governs them and the desperate efforts of these malignant dark forces find expression in accommodating the fake and forged results from Ido Osi, which gave the PDP a most corrupt victory in an exercise they were clearly defeated.

“Conversely, we watched the gallant showing and bravery of the Ekiti people who have so far stood in defiance of the arms and tanks of the bestial leaders this country is cursed with. We watched the initial show of bravery of the REC who was cajoled into surrendering herself to the amoral and devilish cabal after she initially resigned her appointment rather than being forced to accommodate a fraudulent concoction from men whose conscience is dead and cannot ever resurrect. We have very strong reasons to believe that the Yar’Adua government subjected the woman to tremendous pressure to announce fake results to give PDP victory, after she had revealed dirty and sordid efforts by the same presidency to force her to announce fake results. We have reasons to believe the woman buckled under sustained pressure to do the dirty bidding of the PDP and this is why we are witnessing the shameful acts the presidency, INEC and the PDP are now play-acting in Ekiti State.

“Lagos AC, while urging all Ekiti State to ensure that this daylight robbery does not stand, asks all Nigerians to rise up with the Ekiti people and put an end to these deadly elements who are employing Nigeria’s high offices to prosecute the destruction of Nigeria. While we maintain that the AC will reclaim its stolen mandate through every legal means, we call on Nigerians to rise in unison and chase out these characters who are ruining the country through such orchestrated farce as is being untidily completed in Ekiti. We call on all Nigerians to ensure that this macabre rape in Ekiti is not allowed again and we call on all to ensure that this fraud should not stand. Enough is enough and now is the time to tell these vote robbers in the PDP and the amoral occupiers of the country’s leadership this gospel position.”
