Last Election in Oye-Ekiti commences with 15 Policemen per polling unit

May 4, 2009

Elections in Oye-Ekiti commenced today in what may be regarded as the most militarized election atmosphere in Nigeria's history with unimpressive voters turnout. Our reporters noted there are 15 policemen per polling unit in Oye -Ekiti. The situation is calm but tense due to intervention of traditional rulers in Oye-Ekiti who went about cursing voters.

Also, a PDP operative, Tope Aluko accused of harboring thugs and university cultists  was arrested in Oye-Ekiti at Unity Secondary in Oye-Ekiti. He has since been driven to Ado-Ekiti in a police convoy. Last week, his wife-Tosin Aluko, who is a lecturer at the state university in Ado-Ekiti was also arrested. She dressed up in a wedding gown in the last election day , but the Inspector General of Police has since ordered her released and done same with all the thugs arrested in Ekiti last week.

Saharareporters had earlier reported of plans to impose "Day Curfew" on the rest of Ekiti State but the acting Governor of the state, Tunji Odeyemi, succesfully resisted the order from the presidency to do so. The director general of the state security services (sss), Mr. Afrikerya Gadzama was spotted in Oye -Ekiti, our sources said he relocated to Ekiti five days ago, in order to reign in his officials seen to be pro-AC in Ekiti State, the SSS director in Ekiti State has been detailed to monitor the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Ayoka Adebayo , so she can't disappear from the state in case the elections don't end according to her "conscience and God".
