Yuguda and super immunity

May 9, 2009

Dear Sir: No one should blame Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State from taking further immunity by getting married to President Yar’Adua’s daughter. If you were him, would you have done otherwise?

This is a man who was in PDP and when jilted, crossed over to ANPP and captured the seat of governor and now gone to his original party. His former (ANPP) party condemned his movement; his deputy and Speaker of the State House of Assembly have refused to follow him. This is a governor that has been accused of flouting due process in almost everything he does.

There is the diversionary rumour that he would be the next CBN governor. As an ex-banker that Yuguda is, there is no doubt that he is eminently qualified for the post, but one doubts that the President would allow that to be. But it is widely believed that there is more to his recent moves of getting married to a first family’s daughter and also changing his political party platform.

Where is the President who had pretended that he would like to have the immunity clause expunged from the country’s constitution? He seems not to mean anything he says. He is just confirming that he is a President that barks but not bites and could be deceitful and pretentious.  And the nation does not deserve such a leader considering the present dispensation..
