EFCC: Our intervention is principled - PRONACO

May 20, 2009

PRESS STATEMENT:Our attention has been drawn to a recent story by Sahara reporters which tries to query our engagement of the anti corruption crusade driven by the EFCC.

We wish to state categorically that the report which is premised on juvenile fabrications and insinuations or assumptions in some cases, also attempts to portray PRONACO intervention in the national anti corruption crusade in bad light.

Given what we know about Sahara Reporters, we have tactically decided not to join issues with the people behind this malicious story. But, for the benefit of doubt, to publish some of our previous interventions in the national anti corruption crusade based on  conviction in order to help public opinion on this matter.

We again wish to restate our commitment to the EFCC Anti Corruption Revolution, which was proposed by us and whose facilitation we are hundred percent committed to as a strategy to exterminating corruption.  This is against the backdrops of the errors and self serving activities of the Obasanjo’s EFCC anchored by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

Therefore no amount mudslinging by displaced or dislodged cartel in the EFCC will ever deter us from moving this new initiative forward as we owe our intervention in this regard to the impoverished people of Nigeria and not infantile and reckless activism of playing to gallery so as to catch public attention

Our interface with the new EFCC is purely programmatic and principled bordering on the Anti Corruption Revolution, ANCOR, which we are trying to facilitate through our Citizens’ Advocacy Group, CAG.

However, as we agree that the Nigerian government, as well as the EFCC, still needs to improve on public perception about its stance to combat corruption in order to fully win the war against corruption, we think the resourceful is not to abandon the crusade based on assumptions and insinuations on the ability of Farida Waziri, but to constructively engage the fight and make it work in the interest of the impoverished mass of the country.

Signed

Wale Okunniyi
